Operation Infinite FReep Report: Mecom II - Houston Supports Our Troops
7 March 2003

Five members from the Houston Chapter of FreeRepublic once again demonstrated support for President Bush, the United States of America, and the troops that defend her while counter-demonstrating against local "anti-war" forces at the Mecom Fountain, near downtown Houston.
One of the newest members, John P LSU was the first member to arrive, soon joined by his wife. They arrived at 4:30 and were the first to encounter the other side. Soon Humblegunner, Dix, and PetroniDE joined them and proceeded to take location on the island that contains the Mecom Fountain. Once the large "We Support Our Troops" banner was displayed, along with a few U.S. flags, for approximately 30 minutes, the small group of Freepers received more honks and shows of support from passing motorists than the "peace" crowd. John P LSU passed out about twenty "Disarm Iraq" flyers to passing motorists.
Certain members of the opposing view seem to think that the first amendment of the Constitution only applies to them. After being frustrated that the small "pro-America" crowd was receiving more support, several of them positioned themselves in an attempt to obstruct the banner view. The Freepers did the best they could in positioning themselves on the edge of the fountain island, so the "peace" crowd was not completely successful in that effort. Humblegunner had an fairly pleasant conversation with one of the more reasoned peace protestors, and Dix gave an interview to a local reporter. Once again, the "first amendment police" attempted to interrupt the conversation, but then PetroniDE stepped in and told her not to interrupt our free speech right.
Humblegunner as usual served as photographer, and John P LSU also took pictures. Our Freep lasted until a little after 7:00 pm, when it became too dark to see most of the signs (ours or theirs). Griff's (a local rugby hotspot) was the place for a quick dinner. The "peace" people had their protests, but the Freepers made sure the other (and more correct point of view) was represented.

One final comment. Somewhere in Houston, there is a family with a member of the United States military stationed on the U.S.S. Camden. Somewhere on I-10 westbound, between Hwy. 6 and Barker Cypress at about 8:30 pm, I spotted a dark colored pick-up truck, with the following message on the back windshield
"GOD BLESS OUR SON, AND THE U.S.S. CAMDEN".
While driving by them, I gave them a thumbs-up sign. While the support of our troops today is for all of our military personnel, this thread is especially dedicated to you. Once the pictures are posted, someone please e-mail them to the U.S.S. Camden.

Sleep is a good thing. You can get caught up before the next freep, and with any luck, I will be over this stupid cold before the next gathering of anti-anti-Americans. :-)

Good job, guys! Looks like you had another great time - pulling rank on the leftists. And it's soooo easy to outwit them since they're only half-armed!!
