FBI and Antioch police seek missing girl
By Bay City News Service

A 12-year-old Antioch girl has been missing for more than 24 hours since leaving her home early Thursday in the company of two men in their late teens or early 20s, police said.

It remains unknown whether she went willingly or was abducted, according to the Antioch Police Department, which described the men as either white or Hispanic and released only their first names, "Sean'' and "Brandon.''

Holly Messick, the girl, is described as white, 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 112 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen leaving her home with the two men around 12:15 a.m. Thursday.

A police spokesman could not be reached early Friday to confirm the address of the home where Messick lives.

The FBI, which is also participating in the investigation, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Authorities say the men are possibly driving a black compact car that may have a broken rear side window and a side window sticker reading, "Delusion.''

Another vehicle associated with the men is an older-model, full-sized white van with a passenger-side sliding door and black trim around the bottom.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Antioch Police Department at (925) 779-6926, Detective Mike Schneider at (925) 779-6931, or the police department's dispatch center after business hours at (925) 778-2441.

Although CA, my home and the home of the fearless founder of FreeRepublic, has significant political problems, crime is not as much of a problem as the rest of the country imagines.

In the year 2000 California had an estimated population of 33,871,648 which ranked the state 1st in population. For that year the State of California had a total Crime Index of 3,739.7 reported incidents per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 30th highest total Crime Index. For Violent Crime California had a reported incident rate of 621.6 per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 9th highest occurrence for Violent Crime among the states. For crimes against Property, the state had a reported incident rate of 3,118.2 per 100,000 people, which ranked as the state 33rd highest.

In other words, eight states had a higher violent crime rate, and for all crimes CA was actually in better shape than over half the nation. Food for thought.

Very interesting statistics Joe. Perhaps the 3-Strikes-You're-Out program has in fact played a significant role in reducing broad based violent crime in the golden state.

However, you may agree that the sensationalism of many crimes, especially those against juveniles, has put California squarely on the Headline News "tear sheet" along with the aggressive and story hungry local TV press hounds.

Hummmm? Lots of little details to chew on in this article that send up some red flags. They know more than they should, for an abduction...JMHO!

Here is another statement that sends up a red flag.

She was last seen leaving her home with the two men around 12:15 a.m. Thursday.

That is the middle of the night. Where the heck are the parents unless they were the ones seeing her leaving with these guys.
