This country has a regrettable history of making the most inappropriate alliances, and then wandering around like a deer in the headlights, going, "What happened?" when these erstwhile allies go off & commit some new mayhem. Vietnam, El Salvador, Nicaragua, the mujahadeen in Afghanistan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the list goes on. Now the Kurds, apparently.
Has the Turkish military made any progress in prodding the Parliament?

Thankyou for the links. I'm going through them.
I am sympathetic to the Kurdish situation in Iraq, as you may have gathered, but in no way am I sympathetic to the PKK. Their tactics are reminiscent of the tactics of the Viet Cong. Anyone that purposely targets innocents has already lost their souls. And whatever you have to do to get the guys that do these things is also just fine with me.
A handful of misfits attacked us, and killed 3000 innocents, maybe a tenth of what Turkey has suffered, and we are going to chase them down to the ends of the earth. I expect no less of Turkey. We have to distinguish between the ones that did this, and the ones that didn't. And one of the things we have to do is drain the swamp, so to speak, which is part of what drives us in Afghanistan, and part of what drives us in Iraq.
It gets complicated. We are trying to separate the Pashtuns from the Taliban, and we are trying to separate the Kurds from the PKK. It gets tricky, because if you kill the wrong people you just create more recruits. But while you try to find common cause where you can, and try to avoid doing more harm than good, you still have to identify and find the killers and kill them.

Thank you for posting this. God bless those poor people. We make a giant mistake (and an evil one) if we get in bed with terrorists.

The photos stun me.
Turks in small villages are warm, open, incredibly generous people. Targeting them for political purposes is like beating a puppy because of a bad day at work. I truly pray that at the end of the process we're starting over there, this terrorism too will be reined in. Surely Saddam's presence is not helping any of this.

Please send these links to your representatives. You don't know what you're getting yourselves into... Yes, but all Turkey had to do was stand with us instead of embarrassing us and putting more of our men at risk. Then we would shaft the Kurds again like we did in '91, and give Turkey a nice piece of the Northen Iraq oil action. By pissing off Bush and Rumsfeld, the Turks are pushing us into the arms of the Kurds. It would be most helpful if a new vote could be scheduled this week, and this time the PM needs to insist on party loyalty.

I'll check out the links later.

Terrorists who target innocent civilians deserve no more than a bullet, and only if you are in a merciful mood.

The PKK is an evil Marxist terrorist organization. The KDP and PUK are very different. They may have at times supported the much-larger PKK, but they aren't like that group.
