From the Japanese language Yomiuri News report:
The Government of Japan has just announced (around 1 p.m. Eastern Time Thursday) that it will UNCONDITIONALLY STAND WITH THE UNITED STATES, and will support it's ally in the event war is brought upon Iraq, and this support is WITH OR WITHOUT any additional, new United Nations Resolution.
The statement said that time has run out for Iraq to disarm, the US will be supported by Japan, and the US-Japan alliance will be in place.
Japan will note in it's statement, coming up shortly, that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, has been told time and again to eliminate them, they have not done so, the US may move to take action, and since the continued possession of WMD by Iraq is unacceptable, Japan has made the official decision they will follow whatever the USA does in this situation. They state that Iraq is only strengthened by the positions put forth by France, Germany and Russia, as it delays Iraqi compliance with the UN resolutions.
Japan noted that action on Iraq is liable to occur in the early hours of an upcoming morning in Iraq, therefor, noting international time differences, Japan will be the first major democracy in the world to issue a statement on the hostilities; and in this sense, it is readying itself for a quick, strong message of US support by Prime Minister Koizumi.
Japan is citing UN Resolutions 1441, 678 and 687 as reason enough for it now to support the United States in the event of war. In addition, it says it wants no division between the United States and Japan with the current, increasing threats from neighbor North Korea, so it will fortify wherever possible the existing US-Japan military alliance.

The Statement by JAPAN is quite Welcome at this time. The USA really appreciates it.
Of Course, it also says that the Japanese are not stupid. They are smart enough to figure out that the USA will help protect Japan against the even more dangerous (to Japan) North Koreans!
Peace! ........

Uh, oh. The liberals are gonna be pi$$ed. They keep saying we're "going it alone", or cry "unilateralism!", as if the Brits are chopped liver or something. Now we've got a nation of 100+ million with us. So much for unilateralism, eh libs?

That phrase "coalition of the willing" really ticks me off, too.
All coalitions are among the willing ...... if you're not willing, you simply don't join the cause. If you're coerced, then you're a captive nation, not a member of a coalition. More of the idiocy of the liberal media!
I am aware that the President used the term once but the media latched on to it and put a quite different spin on it.
Btw, welcome to FR ..... and, fyi, this "doode" happens to be a middle-aged grandma ...... LOL! You're far from the first person to make the assumption that you did.

Some ridiculous liberal Democrat congresswoman from Illinois, I believe, was in the audience the other night on "Nightline", spouting that damned "unilateralism" right and left.
Somebody ought to mail this thread to that moron and ask her if it is 'unilateral' for both the Largest and Second Largest economies in the world (not to mention all the other allies getting behind Uncle Sam), to line up eye-to-eye on this one.

Thank you Japan. How interesting it is to contrast the behavior of the two defeated enemies in WWII in the current crisis in Iraq: Japan gives us unconditional support and the German Chancellor gets elected only when he adopts a virulent anti-American campaign.
Interesting, indeed.

Japan - an example of what happens when we conquer a country we are at war with.
Iraq - an example of what happens when we don't.
