KVI 570 talk show host John Carlson led his 3:00 program today with a topic he researched today. There's a social studies teacher at Issaquah High School who posted offensive propaganda images of the Bush Administration and corporate America.
Turns out the website is integral to this teachers course and required reading for classroom assignments and quizs. The website is also the responsibility of the school district and taxpayer funded.
Carlson's exposure has resulted in the website being cleaned up. All the offensive images are now gone!
Way to go Carlson and KVI 570!

The biggest compliment that I get is "You're not like the other teachers".
Commendable. Real teachers don't indoctrinate or merely induce recitation of facts. They teach people to think. And that's what your students are noticing in the difference bewteen you and other teachers.
You're a success professionally. Even in the public school system that is arranged so as to avoid rewarding your effectiveness. My only longterm union job sucked because it was socialist and the slackers got the same rewards as the people who did the real work and kept the place afloat financially. I was liberal back then but I think I eventually turned conservative largely because of having seen it in action myself.

"Home of the 2002 Teacher of the Year" I sure hope that it wasn't Mr Berka that received this award.
Yep. And he's still bragging about it at his website.
It seems he also fancies himself as a rock bass player. Not very surprisingly, the name of his group, per the website info, was the Shrunken Heads.
There are 11 MP3 versions of the group's work to consider for artistic merit, or possibly other more objectionable content, though bad bassist Burka didn't set the lyrics to any of the tunes, and it's to be hoped that his fellow musicians had more sense and better taste than he does. But those with MP3 players might want to check to be certain.

Dang. I currently am going to college in Texas, but my family lives in Snoqualmie, WA, which is only 10 minutes away from high school. It's sick that these people are using TAXPAYER money to run their own agenda.
In relation to the ongoing pledge debate... who's forcing what down our students' throats?

That should say, "Snoqualmie is only 10 minutes away from Issaquah High School."
I are college student.

Any way this is still in a Google cache? I'm curious what was posted and in what context.

{However, the socialist teacher still has anti-Bush, anti-conservative posters on his window and walls in the classroom. And the principal, Mike Gallegher, was disgraceful. TAKE DOWN THOSE IMAGES!!!! }
Conservative students ought to complain that the teacher's anti-conservative posters in the classroom create a hostile and polarizing atmosphere for people.

I find it ironic that liberals who decry teachers wearing/showing any form of religious expression (to impressionable children) have absolutely no problem with teachers using a public forum to propogate their political views. It's one thing to encourage open political dialogue among adults. But, does anyone honestly believe open dialogue among ten-year olds can occur when they know where their teacher (apriori) stands?

I'm also looking for the teacher's phone number and email address.E-mail's fine, but please don't post his home phone number here. There's no need for that...

I have no information on that and would seriously doubt that he'll be fired. I don't really think he should be.
Clearly, there will be discussions at the school and I believe this teacher and the school will mature. All in all, it's a pretty good school district. That assessment may be overly generous, but then there's the teachers union, you know?
My son's girlfriend has his class and I asked him to get a full report on the class tomorrow. Stay tuned....

Here's my email to Mr. Berka: 2002 "Teacher of the Year" - God Help Us!
Since you believe in interjecting your personal politics into Issaquah High School's classrooms, how about equal time for opposing viewpoints? No? I figured as much. No opinions allowed unless they're Leftist, eh, Mr. Berka? I guess I'll just have to express my opinions when voting for the next school levy. I AM an Issaquah taxpayer. KUDOS to KVI for bringing your website to public attention.
Bette Filley
P.S. That "Teacher of the Year" award should more correctly be "Democrat Teacher of the Year."

Nancy's "a life-long Republican, but doesn't like the way the country is headed under this administration." She usually keeps her routine to talk-radio and C-SPAN, but thought she'd give it a whirl with us. We should feel flattered! Poor gal, that lithium's gotta be a bitch!
