MMM Campaign To Halt Gun Manufacturer Immunity Bill (H.R.2037/S.2268)

FOLKS,

Come on out! Stop hibernating! We need your help. Just read about the IMMUNITY BILL. We really need to take action on this. Why should we let gun manufacturers get immunity from victims of gun violence when virtually no other industry (cars, food, toys, clothing, everything you touch) doesn't????

Click on the link http://capwiz.com/brady/dbq/officials type in your zip code and send a message to OPPOSE H.R.2037/S.2268 (the capwiz link will give you a cue for this Immunity Bill). Yeah, life is busy, and we are all stressed, but please take a moment to DO SOMETHING!

THANKS A MILLION!

Joan Hearn-Central CT MMM/Brady

*UPDATE ON THE IMMUNITY BILL *NEW FACT SHEET ON STATE IMMUNITY BILLS *MINNESOTA MOMS VICTORIOUS! *NATIONAL STATE PRESIDENT’S COUNCIL OFF TO A GREAT START *IT’S TIME TO “SPRING” INTO ACTION *SAVE THE DATE: ANNUAL MEETING SET FOR SEPTEMBER

*UPDATE ON THE IMMUNITY BILL In the last few weeks, the gun lobby has stepped up its efforts to line up cosponsors for special interest legislation (H.R. 2037/S. 2268 in the last Congress) that would take away the legal rights of gun violence victims and give sweeping legal immunity to the gun industry. The National Rifle Association and its allies are contacting Hill staff and distributing misleading materials in an effort to enlist a majority of both the House and Senate as cosponsors. We need to counter their efforts and make sure that Members know the truth and understand our strong opposition.

Please re-contact your Representatives and Senators TODAY and ask them NOT TO COSPONSOR ANY LEGISLATION THAT WILL DEPRIVE VICTIMS OF THEIR LEGAL RIGHTS.

IN PARTICULAR, if you live in or know people in *Louisiana, *Arkansas, or *South Dakota, please contact/ask them to contact Senator Breaux (D-LA), Senators Landrieu (D-LA), Senator Lincoln (D-AR), and Senator Johnson (D-SD) and ASK THEM NOT TO COSPONSOR ANY LEGISLATION THAT WILL DEPRIVE VICTIMS OF THEIR LEGAL RIGHTS.

To send a letter to your elected officials on this issue, go to http://capwiz.com/brady/issues.

To find out the contact information (to call, fax, or write a personal letter) for your elected officials, go to: http://capwiz.com/brady/dbq/officials.

*NEW FACT SHEET ON STATE IMMUNITY BILLS Director of State Legislation Luis Tolley has created a new fact sheet for use by states fighting state level immunity bills. This fact sheet will be in the Secure Area of the MMM Web site by Monday close-of-business.

*MINNESOTA MOMS VICTORIOUS! Congratulations to the Northland Chapter of the Million Mom March who led the fight to prohibit guns in city building. Right beside them were the Twin Cities Chapter members who braved the chilly Minnesota weather to travel to Duluth to help get this huge victory!

The City passed this landmark ordinance this week that will ban handguns from city-owned buildings, even if a person has a concealed-weapons permit according to the Duluth News Tribune. The mayor is expected to sign this ordinance. All MMM members are encouraged to read the full article on our MMM Website Bulletin Board and post a personal note of congratulations for a job well done.

* NATIONAL STATE PRESIDENT’S COUNCIL OFF TO A GREAT START The National State President’s Council had its first meeting this week, and it is off to a great start! Thanks to everyone who helped organize the call and to those who participated in the call. A special thanks to Shikha Hamilton for chairing the meeting and Mary Leigh Blek for helping to make it happen!

*IT’S TIME TO “SPRING” INTO ACTION Historically Spring has been a time of action for the Million Mom March. April 20th marks the sad anniversary of the Columbine shooting, a reminder of all the senseless shootings of kids and teens in the U. S. every day, and Mother’s Day is in May, a very sad day for any mother who has lost a child.

These two markers spur us to action every year at this time. As announced previously, the Florida State Council is organizing a MMM public demonstration of the NRA Convention on April 26th in Orlando, FL. If you know people in Florida, let them know about the date and encourage them to go. (A Save the Date Flyer is in the Secure Area of the Bulletin Board for your use in alerting your networks.)

The Florida State Council is brainstorming easy ways for your chapter to get involved in the demonstration from a distance. Send any ideas you may have on how chapters can get involved to exposethenra@millionmommarch.org.

Many local chapters and state councils already have lobby days or other events they do every year—that have become “traditions” already! Others use the Spring as a time for membership drives. Next week, we’ll send around last year’s summary of some of the events. It’s all good, as they say!

*SAVE THE DATE: ANNUAL MEETING SET FOR SEPTEMBER This year, the Brady Campaign Annual Meeting and the annual Million Mom March Conference will be in Washington, DC, on Friday, September 19th and Saturday, September 20th. There will be a national lobby day preceding the conference on Thursday, September 18th. Stay tuned for details!

Some good contact info. and dates. Bear in mind that the links are no doubt an automated "opposed" message that you add your email address to. Best to contact your representatives directly or through the NRA rather that through the links provided here. The message sent may not be the message you intended.

This sounds more like a criminal conspiracy to overthrow the Bill of Rights instead of anything else.

Just wrote letters to Sen. Breaux and Rep. Tauzin. I really had no doubts about them supporting gun rights, since they are both hunters and fisherman, but a little support never hurts!

Thanks for the posting, maybe more Freepers will live up to their responsibility and make their voices heard.

The modus operandi of the left and their friends.

The difference between the gun industry and other industries "(cars, food, toys, clothing, everything you touch)" is that the products work just fine as intended. It is the USER of the product that is causing violence. I'm all for going after a manufacturer, whether it is a gun maker or a car seat maker, if the product fails in a dangerous manner. By the reasoning of the MMM/Brady folks, if someone beats someone to death with an infant's car seat, then the manufacturer of the car seat would be at fault. As usual, these arguments do not make sense to rational people.

BINGO!

Excellent point based on common sense. Unfortunately, common sense isn't anything the gun Nazi's practice.

The Second Amendment is a God given right that is irrefutable.

A horrible bill has been recently introduced into the House of Representatives to attack the firearms industry. It is Bill H.R.2037/S.2268

Did I miss something? I believe the bills protect manufacturers and therefore we should support passage.
