It seems to me at the very least this shows that at their very core, they knew the US's intentions. Why would they chain themselves to civilian targets, which they fooled themselves into thinking needed their protection, if they were afraid of getting hurt? Given their fear of getting hurt, the first signs of sanity I've seen from these people, they would not have agreed to go to civilian targets had they thought we would have bombed them in the first place.

"these misguided souls actually are trying to reach into a time long past. Their belief that they are owed a cause for which to protest simply for the experience is one of the most selfish ideals to come out of the its-not-my-fault generation to date"
This is exactly what is going on here. They see the film from the 60's and 70's and they think those guys were just having a great time. Some were. Not those at Kent State though, for sure. That's about the time those who just wanted a good time started rethinking not their opposition, but their willingness to get shot for it. silly American kids

the ex-American shields should never be permitted to stand again on American soil.

I think they should stay. We would be better off with a few less idiots on the planet.

Yet more evidence that we have delayed the war too long. The "shields" are getting away.

Tsk. We missed a perfectly good opportunity to throw some chlorine in the gene pool by waiting for those throwbacks of evolution (AKA, "human shields") to leave Iraq.
Those schmucks were just Darwin Awards waiting to happen.

What a surprise. I went to DU and didn't find any stories about the oh-so-brave human shields running away like little girly men.

Not those at Kent State though, for sure. Those at Kent State expected to have a good time, though. They were just privileged kids from Cleveland doing their usual, taunting the National Guard, calling them fascist pigs - I mean, after all, the Guard was just a bunch of local hick kids who weren't cool enough to be out "protesting" the war, so who cared about them? Call them pigs and fascist oligarchs! And then something happened.
I was living in a nearby town at the time, and people's take on this was quite different from what got into the national papers. Naturally, nobody felt that any of these idiots should have gotten killed, but the Kent State protesters had the same blind, anti-American approach to life that the human shields do. They were protesting in favor of another dictator, Pol Pot, and felt perfectly free to throw rocks and hurl back tear gas cannisters, try to set fire to the ROTC building, etc.
That said, the Guard was not trained for this and was poorly disciplined and should never have fired. These things do happen, but, as you have pointed out, American "protestors" are always stunned when their actions have negative consequences to them.

I agree with you entirely. It was the getting killed that put an end to the good time. They were the same idiots who would run up and down State Street in Madison smashing car windows and turning over cars for no apparent reason. I never understood it. It did not appear to me there were many grownups in charge, either in the universities or in the government.

I heard this over the weekend on Fox.When these people got to Iraq, their Cell Phones were confiscated and they were refused service at hospitals. I thought I was hearing incorrectly. I started laughing so hard. Since I don't watch the Evening news Alphabet Channels, with Mr. Lemmings Jokaw and Blather, I'm wondering if any of them have reported this story in the last 72 hours.I highly doubt they would allow these types of sentences to come from their mouths.
