SAN DIEGO DETECTIVE AIDS IN LACI PETERSON CASE

(03-04-2003) - A private investigator from San Diego made an unusual discovery in Northern California that just might help police in their search for missing Modesto woman, Laci Peterson.

Bill Garcia spotted a chunk of cement by a waterway near Modesto.

“It was interesting because it was the only patch of cement we saw in about 20, 30 miles stretch. And there was a tire track through it,” said Garcia.

Last week, the couple who sold a boat to Laci's husband Scott, said cement residue in the boat wasn't there when they owned it.

Regardless of who might be responsible, Garcia, along with the help of a private field engineer, have made it their mission to find Laci, with no guidance from Modesto Police of Laci’s family.

“Her family needs to know what happened,” said Garcia. “Whether she’s out there and someone’s holding her or whether she’s no longer with us, and we bring her home, or we help in bringing her home.”

Recently, Garcia helped in the search for Danielle van Dam, and also tracked down Phillip Salcedo, the armored car driver accused of stealing money in January.

oh great this will bring Alan Dershowitless out of the woodwork because of the connotations to the use of private detectives in the Klaus von Beulow (sp) case so many years ago.

I am no fan of Scott Peterson and really don’t have an opinion on what happened to Laci.
That said, this cement residue issue was mentioned last week in a Medesto Bee article (I believe)and the residue in his boat was explained away by Scotts brothers, who
stated that Scott had a homemade cement anchor in the boat.

If the media knows this and is still trying to “TRY “ him in the media, then it’s fundamentally wrong.

Thanks for the ping, Tex...I'm following ya.
I just keep hoping that a little something will come along and break this case. Something tells me that LE just needs a few more puzzle pieces to bust that Snott.

tracked down Phillip Salcedo, the armored car driver accused of stealing money in January.

At the request of Salcedo's family. They think him to be innocent, Garcia found him living it up in luxury hotels in Mexico and notified authorities.

Garcia was thought to be employed by SP's family, looks like he is not. At least, not now.

I haven't seen anyone in the media attempting to "TRY" Scott.
In fact I think they have been real carefull not to imply guilt. Dan Abrams has Jackie Peterson on almost nightly for a phone interview. Greta VS had the Mitchell's and thier Laci sighting story on last nite even after it was determined that they were mistaken with their recollection on the date. There is so much that points to SP, but just by keeping the story out there, maybe someday this case can be solved, for the sake of the poor family members.

What's new is that a patch of cement with a tire track has been found. If the track matches any vehicle associated with Scott Peterson, then it will indicate that they are close to finding the body. The excess cement would have been dumped somewhere in proximity to where it was mixed, and it was undoubtedly mixed somewhere near where the body was dumped. They will locate the body soon, if this is the case.

If the tracks don't match, then it's a dead end with no likely relevance to the investigation.

Just because you can concoct a reasonable explaination for something doesn't mean that explaination is true.

What if the Peterson's vehicles use the best selling tires in the United State? And really, whose cars don't?

Matching same brand of tires is not the same as having proof of identical tread wear of the tire to the cement track evidence.

And whatever happened to the blood sample evidence taken from the Peterson's residence, evidence that was supposed to provide convictable evidence for an arrest warrant?

If they blood was there I expected an arrest by now. Maybe the police have no evidence to convict. Anything less and they really have nothing, just suspicion based on the fact he is Laci's husband.

If there was evidence of a murder there they would still have to tie SP to it. It is one thing to find blood and another to prove that a specific someone had something to do with it. Those things can take time and sometimes it will never be linked, even though it might have been linked; if you get my drift!

What if the Peterson's vehicles use the best selling tires in the United State?

Then the odds of it NOT being Peterson's car go to 1 in 12, or whatever the percentage of that tire in the market is. No tire is going to have more than a small percentage of the market.

What it will be is another piece of the puzzle, something that says "search near here and you will find the body". It will not by itself be conclusive proof of guilt.

I've formed no opinions on guilt at this point, other than the obvious fact that she is missing and the husband cannot be eliminated as a suspect. However, there has been no reported evidence that would be sufficient to bring charges, at this point. The thing that really made me wonder about this guy is the report that he made the police get a warrant to search his house the day she went missing.

Yep, I get your drift. Finding her body with evidence he did the deed would do well and probably convict. Short of that, it would be tough sledding for the DA in a courtroom before jurors.

I'm not surprised about the warrant request. Not everyone who owns guns, inherited firearms for example, bothers to register them and definitely would not want the cops finding said unregistered firearms.

Interesting article. It could be something, or it could be nothing.

Hope Modesto PD is on it.
