New Mexico Bill Would Ban 'Dumb' Handguns [New Mexico Gun Control Alert!]

A bill introduced in the New Mexico legislature would ban the sale of all handguns except those equipped with smart-gun technology, the New Mexican reported February 18th.

While smart-gun technology is under development, no such products exist on the market today. The technology prevents unauthorized people from firing weapons.

The Handgun Safety Standard Act introduced by Representative Gail Beam (D-Albuquerque) would require the state to establish a commission to adopt and disseminate handgun-safety standards. The measure also allows residents to keep the conventional handguns they already own.

"It's a public-health initiative because accidental death by guns is rampant in the state," Beam said. "You can still own a gun. But the whole premise of the bill is that if you don't require safety standards, the industry doesn't respond."

The bill is currently in the state House of Representatives Consumer and Public Affairs Committee.

What a liar.

Why don't we start by arming your bodyguards and you with these "smart" guns first Beam.

Smart guns are worthless for self protection.

bang.

What's going on here? I though the Southwest was still a good place for gun owners. I guess the cancer is terminal.

There are parts of New Mexico that have been Democrat enclaves for decades. This is pandering crap at it's worst.

I'll have to disagree, I have a smart gun ..... it's smart enough to wait until I pull the trigger.
It's sort of like a "smart" car, you just have to adjust the "nut" on the steering wheel.

.... shall not be infringed ..... If we could only figure out what this mysterious, ambiguous, cryptic phrase means ....

The problem is conservatives who don't vote. The problem is conservatives who vote for liberals because "their campaign sounds so REASONABLE". The problem is that conservative people don't want to be labeled activists: after all they are conservative, aren't they? The problem is conservatives who don't try to educate their elected officials by offering them statistics on crime vs. hand gun use. The problem is conservatives who don't invite their liberal elected officials to the range so that they can see first hand how responsible law-abiding gun owners are.

Smart guns, dumb guns. I can see it now a police officer in a gunfight with a murdering thug hears click, click, click. The the officer looks at the display on his smart gun and sees "Program is not responding, Press Ctrl, Alt, Delete to end program". I'll keep my dumb gun.

BULLSH#T ALERT! Someone needs to force this lying gungrabber to provide the actual numbers of deaths caused by accidental discharge of guns in New Mexico.

Don't worry, the police will be exempted from the laws.

If they are exempted, what is to keep a thug in a scuffle from getting the officer's gun and using it on him then someone else. That defeats the whole smart gun theory. Game over go create some useful legistration.

So when did New Mexico change it's state flag to a swastika? Just curious, last time I checked the 2nd Amendment did not say "smart firearms" only.

This is a bill. It has not been passed into law yet. But that could change. These gun haters need to have their feet held to the fire.

What this means is that the wetbacks are demanding that the RATS disarm the gringos or they won't continue to illegally vote Democrat in the elections.

So far, the only statistic I found was this one:

In the five states with the highest rate of gun ownership, the number of unintentional gun deaths among 5- to 14-year-olds in the 10-year period was 253, compared to only 15 in the five states with the lowest rate of gun ownership.
--Journal of Trauma

So, singling out the the highest rate states, we're looking at five (5) accidental deaths per year per state.

Not game over. The SOLE purpose of this legislation is for the government to "allow" citizens to buy guns but to be able to deactivate them remotely and render you effectively disarmed.

Squantos,
This doesn't sound like our "old" New Mexico. Must be a transplant from Santa Fe.

Baloney!! What is rampant here is deaths by drunken driver and terminal poverty. And the causes of both can be traced back to irresponsible tax and spend liberal Democrats pandering to the desires of a drink and drug addled constituency of morons (many truly "Brain Dead" as well as toe and elbow dead") with votor registration cards.

My guess is they would also find that the number of unintentional automobile deaths is lowest in the states with the lowest rates of car ownership... just a hunch of course.

Yes I know the purpose. Which is why the people of New Mexico need to tell their government to produce some useful legistration. It's a shame that, Ctrl, Alt, Delete, doesn't work on Stupid government.
