The attacks would be carried out by hijacked airliners from nearby Honolulu International Airport that would be flown into submarines or ships docked at Pearl Harbor in suicide missions. Given increased security at U.S. Aiports after 9/11, wouldn't a more likely scenario be to comandeer an airplane coming into Hono from somewhere in Asia?

Leave ALL the hair and tar and feather him. Then inject truth serum.

I was just joking, really. I hope you are right.

Except for hydrofoils.
I did a little research on the Antares and the supporting documentation which states that the maximum speed of the Antares is/was 65 knots.
Sorry, but I still say that a nuke fast attack can outrun the Antares.

Who do you think is better than Bill Gertz?Bill Gertz sank a couple of notches in my ledger when he repeated a claim by William Safire that the Homeland Security Act authorized TIA when it did nothing of the sort, which calls into question how vigorous he is with his fact-checking - andthe editorial board of the Washington Times did the same, as well as the Cato Institute and Bob Barr. These people are paid to research facts, and they failed to do such IMO because Safire's claims fit their assumptions about the Homeland Security Act.

A few (small number) of our nuke fast attacks might do 65 knots at flank speed. Cavitating like heck at that speed though. The Los Angeles class cannot - no way. The Sea Wolf class - might. I don't really know. Their "official" max speed is 35 knots which is bunk. But 65 knots? I don't know.
Realize that Tom Clancy aside, subs don't escape by going fast. They escape by going deeper, hiding under thermoclines, and going very, very quiet.

I can speak with some authority on this subject. I'm an ex-submariner.
I'm an ex-Sonarman so I know about thermal layers. If the layer is pronounced enough a boat can actually go to All Stop and "lay" or "sit," if you will, on the thermal layer and use only trim tanks to remain stable IF the trim tank use is even necessary.
The Skipjack could do > ?5 knots and that was over 30 years ago. That's why 65 knots is not out of the question. :-)

I thought the last nuclear weapon we used when we attacked Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Yes, after Japan had attacked at... Pearl Harbor. Certain groups taking the same action, they might just receive the same response. Only today instead of having to fight a war for over 3 years to get into position, we could have the package there in just over 1/2 an hour. Better service than most Pizza delivery places. :)

Well, I too an an ex-submariner (navigation). Don't know about the skipjack class. But I'm not buying the Los Angeles class > 65 knots. Not even close.
