He told Geraldo this many, many times," says Mr Bowman.

Well, I can't say I'm surprised to learn that Geraldo is mixed up in this.

"Miller's music was transmitted to the German Army on Wehrmacht Hour to help undermine morale..."

Actually, this may be true. I never realized it before, but I have had a remarkable lack of cravings for bratwurst and sauerkraut when listening to Miller's music!

The suggestions that Miller was interested in both sexes was backed by a medium...

Wow, I can't imagine what this medium knows about the Big Bopper.

This isn't quite on topic, but Glenn Miller is part of the story in "The Five Pennies", a biopic about Loring "Red" Nichols, starring Danny Kaye. Miller was part of Nichols' band, The Five Pennies. I recomend this as one of the all-time great movies, if you can find it (it's on video, but you'll probably have to special order it). Oh, and great scenes of Danny Kaye and Louis Armstrong singing on stage together- unforgettable!

I laughed so hard I had to grab on to my string of pearls.

You've been dipping into that Little Brown Jug again, haven't you?

Personal experience and observation with others. Of course your mileage may very. I have personally used subliminal audio tapes and know that they do have an effect beyond placebo. Further, it is a known fact that music containing subliminal messages (for shoplifting reduction) is used in malls for example, and have been shown to have an effect. I have personal experience with subliminal audio and have seen it work on others as well. I doubt that anyone could be manipulated to do anything that they were not pre-disposed to do in the first place after being subjected to subliminal messaging, but that doesn't mean that people aren't sensitive to the technique. I didn't make the initial assertion that it didn't work, I suggest asking that person to go locate the sources to prove that claim first.

Subliminal audio messaging is typically done by masking the audio message with a louder sound, rather than reversing the audio. In otherwords, a low level voice would be mixed with a high level audio source like music which would mask, rather than eliminate or over-write the initial message.

Here is one article on the question.

My father was in Europe fighting... had it on very good authority - that Glenn Miller got into a fistfight with the pilot of the plane- whose wife he was, uh, shtupping. Dad said that the plane landed at its destination sans Miller (tossed out over the channel), and a coverup ensued

Could you elaborate on this any? What was your father's rank?, what kind of specialty or postion did he have? and in what unit or kind of unit was he serving with? And how did he come across this info?

Much thanks,

never once did I ever hear Miller's 78's being played backwards.

Sure you did. Don't you remember his big song, 5000 6 Pennsylvania?

Thank you for your service to our countery.
Glenn's AFF music show (in German) is out on CD (LaserLite, I believe) I mean, I was shocked when Johnny D started to sing in German (wer wußte?) [LaserLite has many GM recordings obtained from the AAF archives, most likely to save on royality fees. Very interesting look at WWII music, schratchs and all : ) ]

The theme was - give up and go to home, hearth and family. It was broadcast on MW and SW. Early psyops, no doubt.

H*ll, I got all broke up and I sit here in Alaska 50 years after the fact.
BTW, understanding the German language helps when listening to the old recordings.

Ah Ha Found it - RCA also has 'em
From the RCA site...
"The Lost Recordings is a collection of those ABSIE programs. The original metal recordings were lost during the 1980s, hence the title, and what is heard here is a taped copy of those recordings made in the 70s. The sound quality is still good, but the limitations of the technology of the day are evident in places. Still, it should by no means discourage you from enjoying the CD set. Some of the songs offered here are new to Miller's repertoire, and the more familiar tunes benefit from the enhancements of an all-star line-up and a classical string section.

Included on the CDs are some of the introductions to particular songs, in which Miller speaks English to host Ilse Weinberger's German. Miller, on occasion, tries his hand at German, much to the amusement of his peers. At one point, he eggs on Johnny Desmond to introduce his next number in German. ''It's easy to say,'' chirps Miller, who then proceeds to stumble through the title himself. Many of the vocals during these programs were in German also, Johnny Desmond doing a nice job of pronouncing the language. It is interesting to hear many standards of the day sung in Deutsche. Although the decision to sing ''Mary's a Grand Old Name'' in German strikes me as a bit unusual. "

LaserLite is a inexpensive brand found in "discount box stores" Keep an eye out, a great way to have a super music library at low cost.

Hoo-ah

Here's another. While this relates to something much simpler than conveying "messages" it does indicate susceptibility to subliminal stimulation. It would appear that clinical research in this area is very limited. It also appears that there are hundreds of companies selling subliminal audio tapes and no doubt there are bogus claims made. I can only speak from personal experience. I have witnessed subliminal audio tapes have an effect on me personally, although I can't judge whether the effect is what was expected or what the duration of the effect was as I didn't use them for very long. I have seen their effect on other people who used them as well. Again, your mileage may vary.
