WAS THE KING OF SWING SILENCED BY BULLET OF A US HITMAN?
17:32 - 26 February 2003
King of Swing Glenn Miller was a bisexual whose music had hidden subliminal messages used to brainwash German troops, a sensational new investigation claims. And although the bandleader is officially listed as dead, lost in an air crash over the Channel, fresh evidence suggests he was murdered by US secret service hitmen in the red-light district of Paris.
The musician, whose body has never been found, may have been assassinated because he had threatened to blow the whistle on a group of gay officers involved in US undercover operations in various parts of Europe from their base in Bedfordshire.
Martin W Bowman, who has written more than 60 books about military and commercial aviation, reveals the theory in The Bedford Triangle, which examines the role of the US Army Air Force, the American Office of Strategic Services and Britain's Special Operations Executive in World War II.
More than half a century on, little has been revealed about highly sensitive and secret work conducted in country houses and from airfields in Bedfordshire.
But Mr Bowman has gained a tantalising glimpse of the cloak and dagger operations, drawing on dozens of first-hand eye witness accounts.
Miller, America's most famous musician, arrived at Milton Ernest Hall, near Bedford, in July 1944, supposedly to boost morale.
General Dwight D Eisenhower, the Supreme Allied Commander, had demanded his presence.
On December 15, Miller and two others went missing, presumed killed, when their Norseman UC-64 crashed into the sea after taking off from RAF Twinwoods for Paris.
"Many people believe that perhaps the true reason for his disappearance has been covered up," says Mr Bowman who thinks that Miller's music contained secret messages.
"Known as subliminal or 'message under the music' technique, it is a method of putting a hidden message through to a person's subconscious without the conscious mind being aware," he said.
Miller's music was transmitted to the German Army on Wehrmacht Hour to help undermine morale - and this was where any covert messages would have been heard.
People soon noticed that the once affable Major Miller - whose sexuality had been questioned - was becoming tense and missing appointments. According to the British bandleader Geraldo he showed signs of cracking up.
"He said he had no doubts that the band would go back, but he would never see America again. He told Geraldo this many, many times," says Mr Bowman. "A lot of friends in the music business felt that, when it was said that he had died in this aircraft, they didn't quite believe it."
Miller's name was added to the death log some days after the crash.
In the meantime, his personal belongings had been packed up and moved away.
Retired US air force serviceman James E Norwood was one of those 'disappeared' by US intelligence services and given a new identity.
He says: "I know something about the crash that Glenn was alleged to have died in. There was no crash. The entire incident was staged by the intelligence services to cover something up."
Norwood said he and Miller were in a 'squabble' with some top brass who infiltrated the officer corps.
Mr Bowman says: "It seems that they, meaning the members of the group, were predisposed to homosexuality and were attempting to impose their values on others, officers and enlisted men, through harassment, intimidation, malassignment and the like.
"In retaliation, the bandleader may have threatened to 'spill the beans' and 'break the network' wide open.
"At this point the American high command would have to 'retire' Miller from the scene and eliminate a potential breach of security without drawing attention to any covert operations still in force.
"The corruption went right to the top. It still does, as the massive cover-up continues to this day."
MR Bowman reveals that witnesses in Paris claim to have seen Miller drinking in a bar in the Pigalle in Paris on the supposed night of his death.
Then a Parisian brothel-keeper claimed one of her customers, a captain in the military police, said that Miller was having a drink when he was shot or fatally hit on the back of the head.
The suggestions that Miller was interested in both sexes was backed by a medium who, when handed a shirt belonging to the bandleader, said he had 'tendencies with both sexes'. The slight bisexuality would never be proved."
The Bedford Triangle, by Martin W Bowman, printed by Sutton Publishing, costs £7.99 in paperback.
And if that isn't solid proof, nothing is.

LOL!!! True. True.
Oh, and by the by,where did they get one of Miller's shirts? I mean, they didn't just get it out of his dresser draw. The fellow's been dead for 60+ years.
Glenn Miller's music was designed to dishearten the Wermacht?
Gosh, the things one learns in one's old age. As I recall, the Ship's Service jukeboxes played Glenn Miller all day long. I guess we didn't know it was designed to subvert the German General Command and all its troops.
By the way, does one have to play those old 78's backwards to get the disheartening message? Come to think of it, never once did I ever hear Miller's 78's being played backwards.
But live and learn, I suppose.
Or "small" (future red Corvette owner)
Yeah, but how does bat boy figure in?
Classic Michael Rivero line!
LOL!! I laughed so hard I had to grab on to my string of pearls.
More solid than you think. This was the shirt that they gave to the medium:
:^)
Bowman or Borman? (Don't laugh, he's never been located.)
You mean other than the fact that the Brits are addicted to tabloid journalism?
Is there a prize for most clever response? You win. Paul ist kaput. LOL
