Six Volunteers Needed Tomorrow At DC Rally To Play Saddam For Photo Op
RaoulGram

Posted on 02/28/2003 5:02:19 AM PST by Doctor Raoul

Will need six volunteers to play Saddam Insane tomorrow. What we have planned ahould make the AP photo wire and reinforce the point that the anti-war protesters and Dan Rather have given aid and comfort to our enemy.

IF YOU HAVE A CAMO BDU JACKET or SHIRT, BIG ENOUGH TO WEAR OVER YOUR JACKET, YOU MUST BRING THAT. OLIVE DRAB IN LIEU OF CAMO IS ACCEPTABLE.

abner has made red and yellow "shoulder boards" that we can pin on each Saddam. The rank insignia? Alternating stars and peace symbols.

DC Chapter ping!

Doc, I have a summer weight shirt/jacket size Small, and pants in Medium short. But I'll be busy taking photos, I think. I'll bring them though for someone else, if you need 'em.

I must say I think this is a really rotten idea. It's a little adolescent. And it's too gleeful. The tone is wrong.

We're trying to build ourselves up to be a serious conservative voice, and there will be a lot of national press tomorrow, and this doesn't help.

The test should be: is it something our dissident Iraqi speaker or often culturally conservative Conservatives would object to?

This is not the time to do any of the following things:

--dress in drag
--prance around in costumes
--gleefully shout "Bomb Iraq" via your bullhorn
--hold up signs that use obscene phrases such as "piece of ass"

I feel this way strongly.

We Freep on behalf of a much larger group here. Let's act accordingly. This isn't about just having fun tomorrow. These are not ideas that were vetted in the rally planning process, not ideas I had a chance to speak out against privately last week, so I hope no one takes it personally if, in light of the hour, I say publicly: I think the tone is all wrong for this idea.

If you disagree, I say let's vote before the rally.

Why shouldn't she diss this idea? It may strike many people as un-smart. Why shouldn't she diss it?

I don't see why there can't be dialogue on this last-minute idea.

There's a banner that goes with it. It'll reinforce the fact that the anti-war types are giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

Why are we creating subplots for CSPAN and others to focus on and redirecting attention at the last minute?

Why hasn't this idea gone through a group process at our planning meeting so I don't have to type what makes me feel guilty -- a public critique?

This is a *rally* with speakers. This isn't the time for off-stage hi-jinxs.

You know, there's a reason we mock the anti-war protestors' puppets: they're silly and they indicate that those protestors are more about getting out and having fun then being serious on the issues. I don't think we should do the same mistake. I love a LOT of your signs and your enthusiasm, so you HAVE to know this isn't personal. I just think this is the wrong time, wrong place for this.

Let's be attentive, let's focus on the stage, let's be serious.

LOL, I'll even "buy" you off:

If you shelve the Saddam Insane part (maybe the sign is OK, but people dressing up as him, if you shelve that), I'll give you FREE a big blank white canvas cloth, 5 yards long and 2 feet wide, and a waterproof indelible black magic marker to write any message you want.

Why six Saddams? Do you think a Saddam lookalike will be assassinated?

Doctor Raoul, some of your ideas and antics are great. This one stinks.

We have strong messages tomorrow:
1. Support our Troops.
2. Support the decision of our President.

I know you have good intentions and creativity, but not now. Please.

This is serious time Raoul, not playtime. We could be at war any day.

Come with your American Flag tomorrow.........That is all that is needed.

Lighten up!

We've done serious messages before. No one, but no one has donated more of his treasure or his time to promoting conservative ideas through his own unique sense of humor.

Lay off Raoul, please.

1. Yes, No one, but no one has donated more of his treasure or his time to promoting conservative ideas through his own unique sense of humor.

2. How does that respond to my concerns about why this idea is a bad idea?

3. Lay off Raoul, please. As in, if I think this is a bad idea, don't say anything because it's Raoul's? Or because if I say, as a member of the group, that I think it's a bad idea, that's a personal attack?

4. You haven't given one rebuttal to my critique of this idea. You've just told me not to make it. Because it's Raoul's idea.

5. I don't think anyone, even someone as undeniably creative and hardworking as Raoul, should be able to add on the eve of the rally "oh, and this is what we're doing tomorrow," and then if someone objects, Sauropod says, "I'm sorry, that's Raoul's idea, lay off him please." That's not healthy.

6. One of the great things about doing this rally on a day when the left is not counterprotesting is that we're not dragged into off-message fights and attacks on the left. We're not anti-anti-war protestors tomorrow, we're *pro* something: pro-America, pro-troops.

7. Sauropod, if you have any specific reason why you think my critique is wrong other than this is Raoul's idea, please let me know.

Because I see nothing wrong with his idea.

Because someone connected with it has contacted me personally and reassured me it is not over the top.

Because I have a lot more experience in these types of things than you do.
