One Word:

Corruption.

Remember how the county commissioners responded to the voting down of the property tax increase? Remember the widespread raising of property values to compensate for the failure of the tax vote?

This is a sign that the Chapel Hill marxists are slowly taking over the state.

This is why I send my daughter to a private school. It's expensive and not perfect, but so much more conservative than the public schools around here. It's not a "Christian" school, but they do celebrate Christmas and have a prayer once in a while...AMAZING! It's more like the public schools used to be with the exception of too many spoiled, rich kids.

By the way, School Board Elections are this fall for Wake County (Raleigh) and we need some good candidates!! Let the Wake Co. GOP know if you'd like to run. We have a 5 liberal to 4 conservative board now. I think there are 5 up for re-election and 4 of them are the liberal Dem. members. IT'S TIME TO TAKE OVER THIS SOCIALIST BOE-ESPECIALLY SINCE WE HAVE THE MAJORITY IN THE WAKE CO. COMMISSIONER NOW (Who controls the $ for the schools) This is our chance to make a difference!!!!!

Oh sure, high school was pretty easy (except for those AP classes); it was putting up with the Sea of Morons every day. Kinda like DU personified...only a lot more shallow in personality...

It seems the politicians up there in North Carolina are too busy catering to the needs of the hordes of ILLEGAL ALIENS
from Mexico who have taken over a good part of North Carolina and not caring a whit about the citizens of the
state. What a bunch of idiots.

Not much of a human sheild if she's back already. What did Rush call it? "Symbolism over substance".

Yeah, real nice that the school can see its way clear to invite a denigrator of the US but can't manage to find anyone to present the arguments in favor of supporting OUR COUNTRY.

They always "assume" that the other argument is well known and that they are providing a "balance". Twas ever thus but in speaking out against such nonsense we can show these people that their agenda of America bashing ain't gonna work.

Cross-reference the recent FR post about the complaints on socialist teachers in Maine...

The same problem in the public schools in CT. It never gets documented through the liberal press, only through anecdotes. We have to organize to identify the teachers, their motives (if anything other than ignorance), and the incidents and get the facts out to media friends. What do you think?

Who is Lenore Yarger?

"Woolford, along with his wife, Lenore Yarger, and her sister, Lisa Yarger, were sitting in a coffee shop a block away and an hour before the planned sit-in last week. They were three of the five who'd decided to be arrested. Woolford and his wife live in Silk Hope in a Catholic Worker house, an intentional community where people share what they have, embrace simplicity and commit to serve the poor.

"Steve and Lenore talked awhile longer about the Catholic Worker movement, which started in the '30s and has no official connection to Roman Catholicism. CW lives on the church's radical social side--easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter heaven, remember?--and tunes out the rest."
-- Independent

What will she likely talk about?

In her own words:

"In the last week I spent more time that usual listening to the radio and reading the hawkish rhetoric and unsubstantiated claims of people like Donald Rumsfeld, George W. Bush, and North Carolina Senator John Edwards. I've been overwhelmed by shock and horror at the deceptiveness, the arrogance, that these leaders of the US empire, bent on getting the invasion they want. I feel a rage, both at them and at a media that doesn't ask the hard, obvious questions. And I feel deeply saddened, I feel miserable thinking about the people of Iraq, already so beaten down, barely surviving after nearly twelve years of war with the United States. I'm saddened that many US leaders pushing their military action, like the president, call themselves Christian."
-- Lenore Yarger, Campus Watch

What are her credentials?

"Catholic Workers Lenore Yarger and Chris Schweitzer exceeded the limits when they knelt with a banner reading "Hiroshima Never Again!" and recited the prayer of St. Francis with the others. The two were arrested, cited and released."
-- Nonviolence.org

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Three protesters against war in Iraq were arrested after refusing to leave Rep. David Price's office following an overnight sit-in. A small group of protesters had spent Monday night in the office of Price, D-N.C., but were arrested Tuesday evening when they wouldn't leave.
...
The protesters were charged with second-degree trespassing and have a Nov. 18 court date. The others charged were Sascha Bollag and Lenore Yarger.
-- Proletarian News

Google search on "Lenore Yarger" turns up tons of background information. Were I a parent at Southeast Raleigh High School, I would be there with camera rolling.

Thanks for posting this, if my son were in this school I'd be there yanking him out so fast they wouldn't know what hit them.

I think it's time for NC FReepers to FReep the Wake county Superintendent William McNeal here.

While we're at it a e-mail to the school board wouldn't hurt.

Also a letter to the editor at the N & O may help. At least we should do what we can do to make the public aware of what is going on in their tax payer supported schools.

Pretty ironic since the poll that the N & O had conducted last week showed that 2/3 of those polled favored this war against Iraq.

I've been told that Jerry Agar has been made aware of this also, I'll bet he will be bringing it up on his show today.

MKM

The SPAN Club has a meeting Wed. afternoon, according to SE Raleigh HS web site. This may be where Ms. Yarger will speak. If so, not to worry -- they are "watchdogs" and promise to provide "balanced reports on the issues." I hope they do!

From Southeast Raleigh High School web:

Name of Club: Student Political Action Network
Teacher Sponsor: Stotsenberg
Total Membership: 50

Description of Club: Our purpose is to give high school students a voice in sociopolitical issues by exercising our first amendment rights of freedom of speech, petition, and peaceful assembly. We will act as "watchdogs" over school, community, state, and national sociopolitical issues. We will provide SRHS with balanced reports of these issues.
