I know a different newspaper story on this topic was already posted but I liked how The Chronicle wrote the final section of their story on the Baldassare poll, so here it is...

But it's Davis who fares worst in the new survey, which is bad news for a governor facing an enthusiastic recall effort.
Only 26 percent of Californians are pleased with the way Davis is handling the state budget and taxes, and even 57 percent of the Democrats are unhappy with the job he's doing.
While Davis blames the national economic downturn for California's budget problems, 23 percent of those polled point their fingers at the governor, while 17 percent blame population growth and immigration, and 16 percent say the state's sinking financial situation is to blame.
Davis' numbers are even bleaker when only likely voters are considered. Among that group, 28 percent say the governor should get most of the blame for the budget deficit, while 73 percent don't like the way he is handling the state budget.
ANGER AND FRUSTRATION
"Last year, we were talking about how low Davis' approval ratings were when he was elected," Baldassare said. "Now, he's entered an entirely new territory.
"You begin to wonder how the governor can regain the public's trust when his numbers are as low as they are today, and people are directing their anger and frustration at him."
The poll is based on a telephone survey of 2,004 California adults interviewed between Feb. 6 and Feb. 17. The sampling error for a survey that size is plus or minus two percentage points.

That's not the reason. Karl Rove screwed the CAGOP in the last election when he put Gerry Parsky in charge of the campaign.
But I thought the economy during the Impeached Rapist's reign was the greatest one in recorded history?!? In all fifty states!
Oooohhhh - haha! That was actually pretty funny. You should pass that one on to Jay Leno!
Interesting. This is the first time this stat has been significant enough to be mentioned in a liberal rag.
It's also on the same order of magnitude as the dislike for Davis.
Maybe, just maybe, the macro economics of unregulated growth through immigration are beginnig to be understood
Even among California "liberals", I think it always was. Remember, 187 even won in San Francisco. Why? Because most CA libs are baby boomers, and they have a No-Growth/Environmental/Overpopulation opposition to heavy immigration. Add to that the Conservative opposition to mass illegal immigration lawlessness, and you have the 59% majority that 187 won by, even in a high turnout election (which, if the current rhetoric about Liberals and immigration were true, should not have happened).
Liberals and Conservatives have always had common ground about immigration and population growth in California. What's remarkable is that the Mexican ethnic terror lobby has been able to change that entire rhetoric - in fact, the Sac Bee pointed out that the 2002 election was the first one in 30 years where growth was not an issue. Again, why? Because now Growth = Immigrants = Brown People = Can't say nuthin' or yer a Racist.
Truly historic change. Scratch the surface of any white Californian - and a lot of black ones - and you'll find enormous resentment over what has happened. Conservative and Liberal alike.
The screwing of the CAGOP and Bill Simon started in 2001.
I'm confident it's also an irreversable change.
In California, the percentage of the population attributed to unregulated immigration has reached a critical mass. Even if government took the unusual step of regulating immigration and deporting the remaining aliens, the consequences of past policies would comprise 35% of California's population. This sector of the population is growing at a much faster rate than all others and will represent a majority of it's citizens within 25 years.
Today the consequences of unregulated immigration account for more than half of the public school population in the state.
