The oldest person in the world is 115-year-old Kamato Hongo of Japan. She was born Sept. 16, 1887, according to the research group. That blows me away. She was born when Jack the Ripper was on his killing spree in Whitechapel. Just imagine the change in Japan she has seen.
I hope someone writes about me someday and how I "survived the Carter administration" as a young boy.

how I "survived the Carter administration" as a young boyI don't think we have survived it; his legacy will be a festering wound on this nation -- for decades to come.

Take note, this man's longevity had nothing to do with tofu or veggie burgers.

I did say I "hoped", understanding that we are not done suffering from his foolishness.Nor Clinton's. And those two are still out there making trouble for us with their big yappers. I wish they'd both get permanent cases of laryngitis.

How old was George Burns when he passed on ? IIRC he kept smoking cigars right up to the end.
Maybe there's something to tobacco EXTENDING LIFE.

Now I'll never get to ask him: "Mr. McMorran, how did you feel when you heard that President McKinley was shot?"

My kind of guy! Yea, except he didn't get married at age 99 cause he had too.
To: Schatze
Gee, if he hadn't smoked and drank and ate so much junk food, he might have made it to 114! ;^)

The oldest living American died last year! But if the oldest living American died last year, then someone else would have become the oldest living American.

He was born June 19, 1889 A life spanning 3 centuries, WOW One of my aunts was born in Sept. of 1889. She was in her 102nd year when she passed on. She managed to see Haley's Comet in 1910 and again in 1985.
No special diets either. She ate Southern food (soul food now) just like everyone else. Real butter, buttermilk, greens flavored with fat back, foods prepared with bacon grease, BarBQ, whatever. Very fond of turnip greens, cornbread, ham and biscuits.
One thing I inherited from her was an invitation to the Inauguration of Calvin Coolidge. She dissuaded me from any leanings towards liberal Democrats when I was twelve. (I didn't have to wait until my twenties, like many here.)
She was a feminist in the best sense of the word, making her own living for 60 years after her husband died. She traveled the world and knew people as diverse as Billy Graham and Thurgood Marshall.
Imagine living through a period when the USA went from horse and buggy to space travel.
