Every Confederate soldier was a Democrat. The hatred within the Democratic Party for the UNITED States of America, the Constitution, ands the flag goes back to the 1860s and beyond. See http://www.republicanbasics.com/ to read about a history book from the Republican point of view.

I'm sure it's a great flick, but 4 hour's in a theater?, not likely. I'll wait for the video! Pause button and all that! Blackbird.

I might support this movie but ONLY if the director edits out Mrs. Chamberlain's farewell talk to her hubby. That went on and on and on and on and ate up valuable screen time for no useful purpose.

Gods and Generals is one of the most inspirational films out of Hollywood to date. It is blessed with excellent flow, four hours flew by, excellent image and sound and some absolutely astounding acting. This film is a classic and I hope that all who love this country will take the four hours out of their schedules to celebrate our heritage.

EXCELLENT movie! - I saw it with my father on opening night. At the very beginning when Lee is in Washington and Loncoln's War Secretary(?) is asking him to invade the South, notice that Lee is asked to fight for the "Central Government." I found that language absolutely chilling.

RE "Some present day politicians have cameo appearances": You can only see Byrd for a flash of a second as some other generals are panned. Look for George Allen way to the right of the screen during the singing of the "Bonnie Blue" (After Ted Turner's cameo lines). I didn't know that Phil Gramm had a cameo so didn't look for him and wouldn't have recognized Dana Rohrabacher or Ed Markey anyway.

Hard to believe that Ted Turner was involved with this, but then again, there was a jab line at "The Republicans little war."

Gopher,

The production of Gods and Generals was fully funded by Ted Turner. My family will not see it for that reason alone. He could put the entire Living Bible to film and I would have to wonder as to his motives.

Today, we are seeing booming growth in the "Christian economy". We need to be mindful that our focus is on Christ and not the economy.

I am going to go to http://www.GodsandGenerals.com even though I hate long movies. Frankly, the only way to show Hollywood what to produce is to vote, with our wallets! $8.00 is a small donation to make to attempt to change the course of culture in our country. We are a powerful lobby and we will prove once again that: The conservative audience is the best audience to attract!

It is amazing that of all people--Ted Turner----has decided to make this film as accurate as possible.

The History channel did a show on this film and for the most part, showed that what is portrayed in the film is as accurate as possible to history.

I want to see the movie. However, it is a Ted Turner production. I'll wait for it to be on the sat dish.

My son and I viewed this wonderful film over this weekend. I can't tell you how shocked we were to see something that had anything with Ted Turner's name attached to it, give such a honest portrayal of a period in history so contrary to his view of most everything else he has graced us with over his professional career.

I am somewhat of a collector of Civil War era documents and books written in and by witnesses with first hand accounts, and this movie follows as close as I imagine can be done within the restraints of time and substance. This film stuck to the true development of the actual characters they portrayed as anything I have documenting the facts in real time. We were especially shocked to hear the leaders describe their reasons which motivated them to fight with such conviction, and inspiration, divine and otherwise, which contradicts the prevailing political thought portrayed in today's sanitized view of history.

I didn't think I would ever say this but, I would recommend this movie to everyone, with the belief they will join me in welcoming a new breed of non-PC film making as we could expect out of Hollywood. This movie wasn't at all too long, as the critics claim, it wouldn't have pleased them if it was only 10 minutes of the true facts about the quality of the leaders in the Confederacy.

However, I couldn't help but think that we would have had to cross a liberal picket line to see this movie if Mel Gibson or any conservative would have dared dispense the truth about the integrity of the southern cause and take on the PC whores and media. Only Ted Turner could get this kind of pass, just as Clinton did with welfare reform.

I'm certainly supporting this beautiful, majestic film. It is an important document and above considerations of whether it's a good movie or a bad one, entertaining and fast-moving or not. It is a grand project designed to record and perhaps explain the actions of people who are no longer alive to offer their own explanation to those who are alive now. We can't judge it in the same way we would judge some shoddy popular movie designed to appeal to the lowest tastes for entertainment.

For my fellow Christians who are boycotting the film because Ted Turner paid for it: please reconsider.

First, I doubt Turner is going to make much of a profit off of this--he put $80 million into it and at this writing it doesn't look like he's going to get that back. So by declining to see it you're not hurting him; you're cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Second, anyone can be redeemed, even Ted Turner. He is a vile man, but for some reason he has done a good thing in financing this film. Judge not! Maybe he's somehow working his way back toward the Light.

And third, remember that this film represents Ron Maxwell's vision, not Turner's. You aren't going to see a film that is full of Ted Turner propaganda.

Went to see the movie with my wife, 14 year old daughter and 10 year old son. The theater was packed. Great movie.

They almost had me shedding a few tears when the "rebs" cheered for the Irish Brigade after their charge on Marye's Heights at Fredericksburg.

We tried to see it, but it was sold out. I won't get there this weekend, but will do so next week. The thread I read yesterday had such different opinions on the movie. Some people actually said it was boring, and others really liked it.

Sitting in a theater for 4 hrs doesn't bother me. Go early and find a good seat.

I'll save my money. Ted Turner bank rolled the entire production.

Ted is a godless man and anti-Christian.

Also I've heard that the DVD/video release will be significantly longer.

I was supposed to go to see the movie today after I gave a Civil War presentation to some eight graders. Dallas has ice today so the schools are closed. There isn't any sense in having the schools open to risk being on the road for the short time we will have these conditions. I was told to be ready tomorrow for it.

I was first told that it would be in a classroom but now it's for 300 kids in an auditorium. At least I have one more day to prepare.

I'm doing the Union side as a artilleryman and my friend is doing the Confederate side as an infantryman. I had to study the facts I had forgotten in the fifteen years since I've been out of reenacting.
