SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea says a U.S. strategic reconnaissance aircraft intruded into its airspace on Monday and on three consecutive other days to spy on the country ahead of a possible attack.
The North's official KCNA news agency said the RC-135 aircraft was supported by a KC-135 refuelling tanker plane on its missions up and down the east coast of the Korean peninsula inside North Korean airspace.
"The U.S. imperialist warhawks illegally intruded RC-135 strategic reconnaissance plane into the territorial air of the DPRK to spy on it," KCNA said on Tuesday. DPRK is the acronym for the North's official title, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
I don't know why we would want to waste a perfectly good ICBM to deliver a conventional warhead. I know that the AF is considering converting the warheads of some ICBM's from nuclear to conventional, but I think cruise missiles are a better weapon for taking out selected hard targets with conventional WH's. The AF rationale for using ICBM's that they elimnate risk to pilots, but so do cruise missiles. I'd be very surprised if the NK's can stop cruise missiles. I'd like see them stop a few dozen ALCM's and SLCM's fired at the same time from B-1's and a few Los Angeles class subs.
