CNN: NBC lifted fire footage
|
Broadcasting & Cable 2/24/2003 10:00:00 AM |

Cable News Network Friday accused NBC of lifting its feed without permission when covering the devastating fire in Providence, R.I. NBC acknowledged using a few seconds of the CNN feed, but said it was done as a "fair use" under copyright doctrine. Footage from CBS and CNN Newsource affiliate WPRI-TV was actually shot inside the inferno from a cameraman shooting a story on nightclub safety. |

Offered as a response to
this 200-post thread, "Did Fox Steal CNN Coverage?", in which many alleged only a network like FNC would
ever stoop so low as to grab another news channel's video.
EVERYONE does it. QED.

Poor C.N.N. It almost looks as if you can see a small hand just sticking out of the water with three fingers up.

Fair use doctrine. The public has the right to know. That tape educated everyone about fire safety.

Who cares? No body watches either. Other than the tens of millions who still get their marching orders from CBS, NBC, and ABC.

The entrainment/broadcast loves "fair use" when it suits them. If some kid burns a CD copy, he goes to jail instead of having fair use. It's all about money and power.

I thinks it's very interesting that the networks lift video from each other, but FR is supposed to be an immoral site because it's posters archive news here. The public has a right to the news. The Networks argree with they want access.
Once an article is public, it's fair use potential far outweighs any other claims IMO. The idea that facts should be the sole exclusive right of organizations who wish to demand ransom for access to them later, is beyond explanation.

A FOX affiliateYour network affiliation has no bearing on whether or not you're a CNN Newsource affiliate. The former is about whose programming you carry. The latter is just a news footage sharing agreement.
