XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX SUN FEB 23, 2003 23:59:11 ET XXXXX CROW CHARGES: GRAMMY COMMITTEE WARNED ME In New York City on Sunday night, Sheryl Crow claimed GRAMMY reps called her management telling her to refrain from making anti-war statements during the live awards show! "I was [going to do something] and then the GRAMMY committee called up my manager... they said they wanted to keep it all neutral," Crow bravely revealed backstage. MORE GRAMMY officials quicky moved in to action -- "categorically" denying Crow's charge. "No one contacted any artist to talk about content," GRAMMY President Neil Portnow said sternly. On Friday the DRUDGE REPORT disclosed that a CBS executive warned microphones could be unplugged if live performances turned political. "It, of course, is a final option [to cut the microphone.] But it's a very real option," said the top source, who demanded anonymity. "There is a time for political commentary, this is not one of them!" On Saturday CBS's official spokesman Chris Ender publicly denied the DRUDGE story: "There will be no restrictions on artistic expression or opinions expressed during acceptance speeches." Crow, whose guitar strap featured the words "NO WAR" during her on-air Sunday night performance, stopped short of her AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS turn when she wore a 'War is Not the Answer' sequined t-shirt and told reporters, 'I think war is based in greed and there are huge karmic retributions that will follow. I think war is never the answer to solving any problems. The best way to solve problems is to not have enemies." Developing...

War is never the answer to solving any problems?

Is she telling that to Saddam? or Bush?

The best way to solve problems is not to have enemies?

What kind of crap is this?

I say we just let these people say what they want, because the more people like Crow and her ilk talk, the more the American public will realize that these people don't know what they hell they are talking about.

We are experiencing an epidemic of ignoring old lessons like;

"Children should be seen and not heard"

These people are immature, that's about it.

War is greed, LOL.

How about sucking it up to millions of people and trying to sell records based on propoganda.

Notice how the media doesn't ask her if war is an acceptable answer if there is a Democrat in charge? She sure didn't have a problem going to Kosovo to "entertain the troops." As I recall, she wasn't just some independent USO entertainer, either. She was usually pretty close to Hillary and Chelsea. She can justify Kosovo in her mind, but not Iraq.

Ah, life's too short to worry about this maggot! Just sickening.

She's a total buffoon. She's warned of "karmic retribution" in the case of war.

Still, she is hot. She's over 40 and still looks better than alot of the much younger singer broads.

I wonder if she agrees that the "best way to solve AIDS is to not have risky behavior?"

She wore a guitar strap with the words "NO WAR," however, her hair was so long and covered up the word "NO" so for most of her performance it looked like the strap said only "WAR!" It was hilarious to watch!

I listened to Drudge on his show last night and he played this cut over and over. He then alternately played Crowe and the answer to her by a member of the Grammy committee. Drudge got his knickers in a twist trying to drum up a controversy.

Yes, good one. I zeroed in on that statement too as being something maybe a 3rd grader would say. Yes, the best way to not have war is to have peace. That makes about as much sense as what she said.

Notice how FReepers are outraged when MTV censors anti-Hilary boos, but when the Grammys censor anti-Bush statements, that's just fine.

Methinks Ms. Crow has too much blood flow devirted from her head to her chest.

Sheryl put hair style over protest. Most of the time, all I could see was "War" and once or twice "O War." Had she had her hair back, rather than over her shoulders, her full message could've been read.

Ms. Crow could still say it. No-one was holding a gun to her head to keep her quiet. Telling, though, isn't it that she shut up anyway. So much for principle.

I did watch the Grammys and there were not many anti-war or anti-American statements...

But the funniest line of the night is when one of the presenters was reading the teleprompter and she actually read out loud "[applause]".

Also, Eminem kept singing after his song ended and looked around kind of bewildered when he realized he screwed up. LOL!

Didn't this STUPID broad make a comment about her diamond "peace necklace/bracelet"? I guess she didn't hear about all the murder & gang wars going on in Africa over diamonds. What an idiot.......

I've never understood what the deal is with Sheryl Crow. She's a lousy musician.

So do you think CBS was right in passing the word not to make it political?

Could there be another motive here, that CBS did not want to be required to give free air time to the opposition?

Notice how FReepers are outraged when MTV censors anti-Hilary boos, but when the Grammys censor anti-Bush statements, that's just fine.

In the first case the firefighters and policemen were expressing disgust towards a politician who dispises them and was attempting to gain from their pain, and in the second case, a pop star was trying to spit in the eye of the aforementioned civil servants.

What was written on the inside of Avril's coat as she opened it to the audience and cameras turned away? I saw big white letters as she dropped the coat to the foor.

And what about the shirt that said "dead H Pres" that tall afro'd woman had on...I was offended by that. Was there something to that shirt message?
