Any two-digit number can be represented as 10x + y where x,y are in the set 0-9. So instructions say to subtract their sum, so this is 10x + y - (x+y) = 10x + y - x - y = 9x
so only possible solutions are multiples of 9. Each time the symbol list refreshes, the 0,9,18,27 ... 99 symbols are identical, which is what displays in the answer.
each refresh shuffles the symbols so as to obscure.
I guess is what is called "casting out Nines"?
