it would be very stupif for the cali gop to support the davis recall effort..

think about it..

even if the recall is successful, there is not certain the next gov for cali is a rep. - it could well be the lt. gov or the attny general of cali right now

bit what if the recall is unsuccessful, the gop will risk being viewed as

a party wanna overturn a legit election - like it or not, davis won fair and square in 2002...would the cali gop wanna be looked upon the party running against democracy or worse..the party of sore losers?

then there is risk of davis can turn his negativity towards the gop...davis can blame he can't solve the state budget issues cuz he is distracted by the recall efforts..he can easily flip the anger of his incompetence towards the gop citing they are obstructing his efforts to solve the state's crisis...

then even if (huge if) the recall is successful, a new givn for cali is a gop'er...the state's budget issue wont go away...the govn will have the thankless job of raising taxes and cutting services..it is not gonna be easy..so why install an unpopular gop gov post davis..

looking into 2004 - the gop will be better off to have a hugely unpopular davis - imagine davis's approval ratings in the 20s and 30s...it will make the state competitive in both presidential and senatorial campaigns..bush may not need to win cali to secure his 04 chances, but as long as he is within striking distance of winning the state, it will force the dems to spend time and money in the state..this will hurt the dems in the midwestern states which will once again be very competitive for both parties in prez 04 campaigns..

so there is huge downside for the davis recall effort, the upside is much less so..so why not having a wounded davis instead of risking the backlash/backfirings against the gop due to the effort..

jmho...

Why have a recall statute if it is never going to be used?

Why should those of us hanging on for dear life here financially in California have to suffer more and more?

Why don't we recall the Parskyites in the CAGOP instead?

Why even care then?

I'm not trying to pick on you or anyone expressing those sentiments you described. There is no guarantee that the demRats will be the recipients of blame for this mess or the ire of voters as a result, or at least the ones that show up to vote.

Yeah, let's just wait for the ship to capsize. I gotta go rearrange my deck chairs. :-)

I'm also against this recall. This project is fueled by the people who paid bribes to Davis and now are having their budgets cut anyway. They are hopping mad. We shouldn't waste GOP resources helping them try to shake down Davis to get their expected return on investment.
