The congressional offices in Washington are slow and quiet because members of Congress are in their home districts. Now is a good time to stir activity and make noise on Capitol Hill. Let's give the members of Congress plenty to read and do when they return to Washington next week.

Eight pieces of legislation are posted on our Web site:

1. Stop Terrorism Before it Starts 2. Stop Identity Theft, No National ID 3. Restore Workers' Freedom, Right to Work 4. Restore States' Rights, Second & Tenth Amend. 5. Restore Enumerated Powers 6. Repeal Tax Hike on Social Security Benefits 7. Repeal Tax Entirely on Social Security Benefits 8. End the Income Tax, Restore Liberty.

Each piece of legislation has a brief description, along with an easy way to contact your representative. More legislation dealing with immigration, taxes and spending, and the United Nations will be posted soon.

I sent emails to my representatives about these bills, I encourage all FReepers to do the same!

I think that emails are the least desirable method of contacting your representanives and senators.

If your are really concerned visit them in person. Second, call their offices - both local and in DC. Courtesously, tell the staffer your position and offer your help. Thirdly, write to them stating your position. Do not personally abuse them. They may be dumber than a stump, but don't say so. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Fourthly, FAX them stating your opinion. And last of all, email them stating your opinion.

I have found that your representatives are most responsive. Those in other districts are basically Oh! Hum!

Physical letters will do no good any more. Most of them are now being discarded, often unread, due to congressional staffers' fears from the anthrax scares. Faxes are still accepted, and they have the physical impact that e-mails do not.

Physical letters will do no good any more.

Although we usually do this at the state level, and it is extra time and money, my wife and I still write "physical" (paper) letters -- and she hand-delivers them to the legislators. This is very effective -- they not only have the letter (safely) in hand, they have a face to go with the name.

(Once or twice we've delivered letters to Rep. Jennifer Dunn's local office also.)
