Southeast Wisconsin Rally for our Troops - Racine 2/22/03
self | 2/21/03 | LouD

Posted on 02/21/2003 5:10:50 AM PST by LouD

Our troops need your support!

Recent peace demonstrations are being spun by the left, and by Saddam Hussein, as indicating a groundswell of popular opposition to war in Iraq. These demonstrations may also have a detrimental impact on the morale of our servicemembers currently deployed in harm's way. We need to show the world, and our troops, that we support them as they face the difficult task ahead.

In the Racine area, a group of leftists and their naive followers called the Racine Coalition for Peace and Justice has been conducting anti-war rallies on Saturday mornings at the corner of Green Bay Road and Washington Avenue. They fly the United Nations flag, and claim that military action against Iraq, despite Iraq's long history of violating U.N. resolutions, is not justified. We do not intend to let their anti-American protest go unanswered.

We will be meeting at 10:30 on Saturday, in the parking lot in front of Hobby Lobby, at the corner of Green Bay Road and Washington Avenue. Our purpose is to show the flag, both literally and figuratively. We intend to demonstrate that the anti-war, anti-American left does not represent American popular opinion - And that we stand 100% behind our troops and their Commander-In-Chief.

Wear patriotic colors. Bring any flags you have. Make signs that express your support for the President, his policy regarding Iraq and the War on Terror, and our troops. It is not our intention, nor will we tolerate, altercations with the opposition. We are there to peacefully demonstrate that an alternative viewpoint exists, and that the great silent majority of Americans understands the need for military action in Iraq. Dress warmly, and be ready to shout, chant, sing, and make your voice heard in support of our troops.

Additional rallies: Besides this counter-demonstration on Saturday, we will also stage a rally in support of our troops in front of the Racine Courthouse, at 6:00 PM the first day after the onset of hostilities.

Statement of Beliefs

We are not pro-war; No sane person wants war. But we understand the necessity of this war. In the wake of September 11th, can anyone doubt the necessity of preemptive military action against countries intent on the acquisition and use of weapons of mass destruction. In the strikes against New York and Washington, we saw an enemy deploy the most devastating weapons in their arsenal against tens of thousands of civilians. Can there be any doubt what they would do if they were able to acquire nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons and the means to deliver them? Iraq has illegally sought, in direct contravention of UN resolutions, to develop or acquire such weapons. Saddam Hussein has used these weapons in a genocidal campaign against ethnic minorities in his own country. He has attempted to assassinate a U.S. president. Can anyone doubt that he would provide weapons of mass destruction to terrorist organizations? Can we afford to take the chance?

The stability of the post-nuclear world has depended upon a doctrine of retaliation, which has made the cost of employing weapons of mass destruction too high to contemplate for responsible nations. Now, however, in the post-9/11 world, we face terrorist proxies acting on behalf of, or in uncoordinated alignment with, our enemies. At whom will we launch missiles if al Qaeda strikes Washington, or Chicago, or Milwaukee, with a nuclear device? We simply cannot permit irresponsible nations to acquire weapons of mass destruction, and our only possible strategy is one of preemption. That is why we must enforce Iraqi compliance with U.N. resolutions, and, failing that compliance, act to ensure that Saddam Hussein is removed from power, and Iraq returned to the family of responsible nations. We harbor no ill-will towards the Iraqi people. Our fight is with a despot who presents a clear and present danger to our national security.

Pacifists are among the most immoral of men - they make no distinction between aggression and defense. Therefore, pacifism is one of the greatest allies an aggressor can have.

-- Patrick Henry

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing that is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better [people] than himself."

-- John Stewart Mill

I'm not in the area, but would like to stay on your ping list.

Are any rallies planned for central WI? I could probably make one in Appleton/Green Bay/Oshgosh area.

How about Madison around the Capitol. We need to come up against the liberal spirits here. They usually cover rallies at the Capitol.
