Anti-gun SB1 Moving in GA Senate (Republicans Stab Gun Owners in the Back)
Citizens for Safe Government (a no compromise gun owners' rights organization) ^ | 2/20/03 | CSG - email alert

(Atlanta, Thursday, February 20) -- Good news: the HB197 Stealth Triggerlock bill is temporarily stalled in the Georgia House. In the face of relentless pressure from gun owners, to the amazement of many observers, the HB197 juggernaut ground to a halt this week. To everybody who helped resist this back door attack on your rights: you are great activists!

Now the BAD NEWS: no sooner did gun owners gain the upper hand in the House, the so-called "Child Endangerment" coalition of anti-gunners, metro-area prosecutors, and "Hillary Clinton-clone" child-grabbers scurried across the Capitol to plead their case with State Senate boss Sen. Eric Johnson (R-Savannah).

You remember 3 weeks ago, Senate Judiciary Chairman Sen. Charlie Tanksley (R-Marietta) tried to sneak the HB197 Stealth Triggerlock language through his committee as a substitute for SB1 when he thought nobody was looking.

But CSG was there and caught him red-handed. And your overwhelming response shut him down. Then Senate bosses told Mr. Tanksley to cool it and that's when HB197 was formally introduced in the House.

Coalition ringleaders were shocked gun owners stalled HB197 in the House. They went hat-in-hand to Sen. Johnson, whom they don't like, but is known to be a compromiser. And for a price, Mr. Johnson stabbed gun owners in the back by cutting a deal to support the SB1 substitute.

Yesterday, in a snap meeting, a Senate subcommittee approved SB1 with the Stealth Triggerlock language, and yep, you guessed it: a rider added by Sen. Johnson (to jack up certain penalties for contributing to the deprivation of a minor). CSG Legislative Director Bill Phillips made the hearing, but this time the opposition was ready and waiting.

The deal means the anti-gunners are rolling again, Sen. Johnson looks tough on crime, and the Stealth Triggerlock legislation (now SB1) is out of its cage in the Senate.

Bill Phillips declared, "They might have got the jump on us with this double-cross, but we're not going to sit around and let them get away with it."

Pressure works! It's vital you act immediately to send the politicians a message they shouldn't stab you in the back. Your right to self-defense is on the line in the Georgia State Senate.

Action Items

1. This is crucial: call the office of Sen. President Pro Tem Eric Johnson as soon as possible at 404-656-5109 and leave a message you're disappointed he's supporting the SB1 substitute with the HB197 Stealth Triggerlock language by House anti-gun ringleader Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur).

2. Make double-sure your message gets through by sending Sen. Johnson a FAX at 404-657-9727, calling his Savannah office at 912-354-4626, or e-mailing him at: ejohnson@legis.state.ga.us

3. Forward this alert to every gun owner you know.

The second half of the Georgia Stealth Triggerlock battle has begun. Stay tuned--CSG will keep you posted.

Once again the Republicans sell out the gun owners. Let me see Republicans are better than Democrats how? You need a microscope to tell the difference.

I have to call my senator, that jerk Price, again.

Should I send an e-mail even though I live in Utah? I hate anti-freedom legislation.

It's depressing to see the Republicans embrace so many liberal positions. Just like the 2000 Presidential campaigns, you had a choice between Gore(Liberal) and Bush(Liberal-Lite). That's where I have problems with Rush Limbaugh. He thinks it's great 'strategery' by Bush to take away their issues. I think it's a sellout to quiet your enemies. Principle means nothing these days...

On Thursday, Rush expressed his disappointment at the Republicans, who NEVER talk about shrinking the size of the government. He said that Bush and the Republicans are stealing issues from the Democrats, but at the cost of a LARGER government that demands EVEN MORE money from the taxpayers.

I will add some useful boilerplate in a moment, but let me just mention that for getting word out quickly, to a lot of people, local talk radio is very effective. It reach a wide variety of people from all walks of life.

The boilerplate:

Want to tell lots of people about this? Go here:

Ignorance Making You Ill? Cure It!

for links, tools, & instructions about how to contact a pile of different people, and how to send a link to this story right here ( or anywhere else ) to a "mass email" using Outlook Express.

Do be advised that since I increased my volume of mass emails to letters to editors I have gotten return volleys of virus attacks- my ISP filters them out before the get to my PC, but if yours does not, take appropriate precautions to guard your PC.

I take this as a positive- my emails are simply links with no editorial content; so the other side must fear & loath the information even reaching the public.

Want to strike back at the malicious & childish clowns who send spam and viruses? Look here:

... for online traceroutes and other help, so you can email all the ISP's in the chain that propagated the garbage, and let them investigate.

Dang. Due to perhaps the most gerrymandered state senate district in the state (starts in south Roswell, runs to south of I-20), my state senator is now Liane Leviatan (gag!), instead of Bart Ladd, with whom I had a good personal relationship. Just dang.

Here is my e-mail to your Georgia Representatives:

Senator Johnson,

I am writing to you about Second Amendment freedoms. I am aware that you have supported SB 1, another gun control bill that has been introduced into the Senate. It is very disappointing to me that you are helping to strip the rights of good United States Citizens after you made an oath to protect and defend the Georgia State Constitution.

If this bill is passed it will only put further restrictions on peaceful Americans. The right to keep and bear arms is a God given right. God will hold you accountable for how you use your authority in office. I am calling on you to uphold your oath to protect and defend the United States Constitution by voting against this bill.

I love the law written below:

OREGON Article I, Section 27

The people shall have the right to bear arms for the defense of themselves, and the state, but the military shall be kept in strict subordination to the civil power.

Great law. Too bad it's completely ignored in most jurisdictions.

I agree with you- I voted a straight Rep ticket so we'd have a change... but I've known Southern Democrats who were more pro 2-A than these clowns.

Fool me once, a curse on you, fool me twice, a curse on me...

I won't be deceived again.
