WHAT'S YOUR SUCCESS STORY?

Posted on 02/20/2003 1:09:39 PM PST by cyborg

Does anyone remember that Rush Limbaugh show where he only took calls from people who were downsized, had no money then turned themselves into prosperous people? Here's everyone's opportunity to take a light hearted break from the day's events, and talk about your success story. I'd like to know because I get very inspired by such things. Liberals don't like to know about people not depending on government, pulling themselves up by the bootstraps, and making it. Nothing wrong with a little prosperity consciousness and genuine belief in the American Dream.

Rush inspired me back in 92 when I was a dishwasher. I taught myself some computer skills, and then worked nights for free as a Office software instructor in exchange for taking high end tech classes at the same school. I leveraged that into a corporate technology training job in financial services. Kept taking every opportunity that came along. Kept wondering if my lack of college would hold me back, but I just told myself to go for it. I wasn't gonna be the one to say no.

Now I am making real good money and I am happily married. I have worked very hard and saved and this year I bought my first home. I also bought a hot dog truck that's sitting out back. The REAL success stories for me are the one's that I am writing day by day. The one's that are yet to come. I never quit trying to make things better. My next big success story is going to be launching my own business and working for myself.

You either make something which somebody wants or you solve a problem.

If you cannot think of something to produce, then along with your survival fare, work on solving a problem and constantly comm. with people who are in need of a solution, such as yours.

Either way, you must have something with which to trade in exchange for what you value and need.

Most people will not, however, make the effort to comm. unless there's an immediate job prospect; big mistake. Because they need to become familiar to the area of some market wherein are the buyers.

The casual relationship is more open, usually, and the benefit of your work more apparent to the potential buyers.

Next thing you know, you get a call, you're in the door, and you do not even have to sweat out crossing the "T's" and dotting the "i's" on forms, because they already know what you've got.

The secret of success is hanging out where you're wanted. You must find out, where you're wanted.

I was content with barely getting by until I met my future wife. Within 4 years of meeting her I went from being a major underachiever to being a happily married father, with a well paying job and a nice home. That's what I love about this great country of ours-nothing can stop you once you set your mind to turning things around. The funny thing is that once you do decide to change and actually start to work your way up you become much happier. It's like they say-Its not the destination, it's the journey. I don't want to sound like Tony Robbins, but a lot of people get discouraged because they think they won't be happy until they get to point X which may take them years to reach. In actuality, once you start towards that goal you receive the gratification as if you are already there.

Laid off from my job as a commercial aircraft electrician in '91. Instead of waiting for the union to get me my job back, I went to school. I eventually went around the union and worked part time for the same company on weekends. Five years later, after several part time jobs, I graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. My wife now works part time (down from full time) so that she can stay at home with our 2 year old.

I'm working on it right now- catch me in a few years (no, I didn't get downsized- I have a good job, with no prospect of being laid off- I just want more for my family).

"I grow. I prosper. Now God, stand up for bastards!" (King Lear)

Pretty much sums up my experience on this planet.

I second that BUMP. Just got home from a wonderful evening of shopping with my mom. We were under a lot of financial stress paying taxes, but now we've cleared that hurdle. . This weekend I'm splurging and going to see Gods and Generals. I'm so glad to know I am among such inspirational people who don't whine and complain.
