Dennis Miller sides with Bush
MSNBC ^ | 2/16/3 | Nauseating Liberal Donahue Ass-Kisser

Posted on 02/19/2003 12:48:42 PM PST by WaveThatFlag

Comedian, actor and author Dennis Miller appeared on the Feb. 12 ‘Donahue’, ready to debate the MSNBC talk show host on the conflict with Iraq, and to voice his support for President George W. Bush. Click below for more. STARTING ON A congenial note, Miller applauded Donahue: “I’ve always wanted to do a television show with you because you’re (Phil) Donahue. So this means something to me.” But then Miller went on to say that “we could probably not be more diametrically opposed.” Miller offered comments on the war and and he took liberals to task for not seeing evil in the world “because they think they sound like Sissy Spaceck’s mother in ‘Carrie’ or something.” Though he is not a warmonger, Miller supported the president. “I don’t want to go to war. I hate war. Like any other right-mined person, I assume that I like war about as much as most people in the pro-choice movement like abortion — which is not at all. But I just think that if we do have to go in, I’m going to leave it to (the president). I concede that I don’t know as much about it as him. And I don’t think it’s wrong, as you say, to agree with him.”. Donahue then disputed Miller’s definition of liberals: “You’re making us to be some sort of wimpy kind of people who think everything is a nice fairy tale.” Donahue also asked Miller: “Do you really believe that killing innocent people is going to make us safer?” Miller shot back: “Do you think that’s our intention? To go seek out the innocent people?” Donahue and Miller also debated the necessity of going to war with Iraq - and Miller claimed not to understand Donahue’s “obstinate pacifism.” Donahue then reminded Miller that he is not a pacifist and was in fact caught punching someone in public. However, the match of wits has just begun. Donahue moves on to discuss Minority Leader Tom Daschle’s indictment that the Bush administration’s terror response is inadequate. Miller is not impressed. “ I’m looking at Daschle and I’m thinking, that’s all he ever wanted was specifics. They give the specifics and then they make fun of the specifics. Yes, you got to put plastic up and some duct tape up if you want to keep the biological stuff out. It’s the same reason I had to get under my desk when the Ruskies had missiles 90 miles off the coast. Yes, these are the day-to-day things that if you want to attempt something — and indeed, some people don’t want to attempt it because they think they’re going to get vaporized it and — but the people who do, if they can go out to Home Depot and buy this stuff, and it makes them feel better, why piss on it?” Miller asks. So what does Miller think about the high-profile actors who are challenging the Bush administration’s wishes for a war vs. Iraq? On Sean Penn: “I think that once it’s about to hit the fan, if you wanted to decry your leadership, you’re more than welcomed to do so in the local town square. I would stay out of the country that you’re about to business with.” On Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins: “Earnest, well informed, and their research and their heart has led them to the position that they take, as mine has, too.” On Martin Sheen: “Martin. That’s how he leads his life. I disagree with him. But, the one time I met him, he was a bloke.” Despite his wide-ranging opinions, Miller does not view himself as an activist, but rather, as an American citizen and, as such, he says he is “behind Bush” all the way.“That’s why I go on these shows once in awhile. I admire Bush to this extent: I did not know what to make of him at first. But I like a man who is aware of his own limitations,” Miller said.

FReepers like to have information presented in a format friendly manner, since there is so much to read and so little time.  It's not to be taken as an insult.  Nothing more than that.  Many have been flamed and lived through the experience and have been better for it.  I think I might ask Laz to weigh in......

I was listening to Sean Hannity this afternoon while I was running an errand. He had Mike Farrell on to "clarify" the comments that David Clennon made a couple of weeks ago. (Bush is stupider than Adolf Hitler and the ruling class in the US has created a moral climate worse than that of Hitler's Germany.) Farrell was annoying and obnoxious and parsed his words, claiming that Clennon's words were taken out of context. Hannity got irate, and Farrell finally admitted that the Adolf Hitler remark was out of bound. But he wouldn't back down on the ruling class creating a worse moral climate than Adolf Hitler's Germany. Farrell claims that the ruling class isn't necessarily President Bush, but it is the wealthy Americans, the huge multinational corporations, etc who are causing this horrible moral climate. I have been boycotting Farrell for years now...

As far as formatting articles goes, paragraphs are our friends. I copy articles from MSNBC all the time and manually put the < p > in.

Wow. Somebody forgot to take their meds today. Cutting back on the caffeine wouldn't be a bad idea either.

The problem is the ungracious manner in which he took correction. When most people make HTML errors, the correction is taken in stride. WTF became defensive and belligerent. Neither are attractive characteristics in a person.

You are the one using scenes from a cancelled tv show as proof of the word "nazi" in modern slang.. Talk about not having an orginal thought..

Seriously, do you think befor you type, or have any idea of what you are talking about? You challenged my use of the word Nazi. I didn't need any imagination to explain that use because it was self-evident to all but you. Next?

Exactly.

...and using the word Nazi in a pejorative sense is therefore pro-socialist how?

Maybe you like living with a bunch of "Jewish mothers," but where I come from, constant public correction is equally unattractive. If individuals have a problem with the way people post, the best course of action is a private message. Why the stereotypical "Jewish mother" is acting out of misguided love, people post public sarcastic reprimands in this forum to belittle the poster. That is especially unattracive.

You are right. However, the phrase "paragraphs are our friends" coupled with the suggestion of using HTML formating in neither sarcastic nor belittling.

In rereading the posts, I do not believe it was Mr. Mulliner who started the name calling.

Tell you what. You three sourpusses are the only ones who took such offense.

Add me to the "sourpuss" list; we are not grateful when someone takes so little effort. Don't throw us some unformatted text like you'd throw a mutt a bone. Format or don't bother. Do it right or don't do it at all.

I disagree with the idea that Mr. Mulliner's original post was not sarcastic in tone. Go back and read it for yourself. It was certainly condescending.

As for the "name-calling" that you refer to. WTF was responding to not just Mr. Mulliner, but repeated posters who became more who became increasingly more hostile. And this is where I have a problem. I am not interested in reading people's repeated reprimands for minor infractions. Others have voiced the same opinion.

The problem was corrected by Alex Paulsen in post #3. So if this was an issue for any of the individuals, they had only to scroll down (for all you non nerds: left click on sidebar, carefully drag mouse towards you & ...presto: story in unbelievably readable format). And, as I have pointed out, a simple private mailing would have sufficed. All of which makes me question the motives of so many who got involved after the first reprimand. And the need to cc lists of people who were not initially involved to a post that, in theory, was too annoying to read in the first place. Which again beg the directive to all of them: Get a life.

And why do you care so much?

AMEN BROTHER! I read it too and didn't even think about it until it was pointed out. WOW, if they put that much effort into fighting the liberals, just think what could be accomplished.
