Rush just read a news story from the UK I think that went over what happened behind closed doors at the EU meeting yesterday. This is when Chirac got the cold shoulder from the others. Could someone please provide a link to that story?

For those who didn't hear it....several EU leaders...Bertolusconi (sp?), Blair, leaders of Spain, and the Netherlands, pretty much gave it to Chirac when he claimed that war had to be avoided at all costs...They ganged up on him!!

Chirac finds pro-US stance hard to stomach

I believe this is the one you want, as it has details of who said what. It is a VERY good story!

****Flinging his arms up and down, he (Chirac) declared that war was a terrible thing and that thousands of innocent people would lose their lives in a second Gulf war. "It is a question of life and death," he declared.

Then came the most dramatic point of the evening. Silvio Berlusconi, the diminutive Italian premier, eyeballed Mr Chirac and insisted: "I'm just as concerned about life and death as you are."

He asked the French president to consider what happened to innocent people in Bali and the twin towers.***

This was the best part of it all, I thought.

Chirac proves the addage: give someone enough rope and they'll hang themselves. This guy defines the term "pompous."

Who would have thought that Rumsfeld using the term "old" Europe would have been so revelatory. We may be seeing the EU imploding before our eyes.

We are seeing that the Bush administration may be way ahead of the game on this one.

I didn't hear it but live in the Brussels American community... France got shown the door at the NATO meeting just prior to the vote and then Germany immediately back deployments to Turkey; our hosts the Belgiums who are 1/2 french held out 10-minutes to ensure the language leaned towards a defensive deployment; then across town the real meltdown was going on with the EU; Bulguria and Romonia who can join in '07 got lectured about damaging their chances of entry to the EU (as if that was a golden pass to prosperity:)). Then the Netherlands got into it with him. All in all, a very bad 24-hour period for the frenchies who overplayed their hand; the media and Franch let the world to believe that Franch was VETOING the NATO deployment in support of Turkey.... All the French have "left" is their veto at the UN - and a possible realignment of the UN security counsel reflect accurately the world today may take that away if the US has OUR way in a few months:)

You mean we could take out Saddam and simultaneously break up the EU/Vierte Reich/Troisieme Empire? Target-rich environment!

The point some of the other leaders made was the the only reason why inspectors were there at all was the presence of US forces and that this deployment could not continue indefinitely (lets say for the next 2 years or whatever France decides the inspectors need).

France just gave up millions of citizens in the Ivory Coast to be killed under the rule of the Muslim rule in the north. They don't care about lives.

At one point Blair looked the other leaders in the eye and said that every intell agency of every country here believes that Sadaam has WMDs.

When the Brits find ricin and NBC suits in a mosque they know that sooner or later something will happen which will make the Korea train tragedy look small. Blair knows which ME country likes cooking up chemical and sharing the knowledge.

And that's not all!!!When Iraq falls:

OPEC falls...

The UN falls...

The Middle East gets a new neighbor!
