Here's the article from the Journal-Standard. There were several more than a dozen appeaseniks, but what the heck. I am planning to call Mr. Wiegand and politely ask him to back up that "500,000 Iraqis will die" figure. Should be entertaining. Not bad...Eight paragraph write-up and the Freeper forces get 25% of the copy and the last word. Hooah!

Millions march on day of global war protest

By Tyler Vincent, The Journal-Standard

FREEPORT -- Over a dozen area residents braved the cold temperatures and winds Saturday to participate in the second of two peace rallies urging the United States not to take military action against Iraq.

The rally around the intersection of Empire Street and West Avenue was designed to coincide with rallies across the world and to promote peace, according to Shelly Griswold a member of Freeport based "People for Peace."

Noon-time traffic at the intersection saw protesters holding signs with messages reading "Give Peace A Chance," "Let the U.N. Work" and "Drop Bush, Not Bombs."

"My personal view is that we ought to let the U.N. inspectors work and do everything we can to find a peaceful resolution to what's happening in Iraq," Griswold said. "We're still holding out hope that we can make a difference, and we stand out here in the cold holding our signs and hopefully a few of the people who drive by are spurred into action by what we're doing."

Davis resident Laura Andres was protesting because she is concerned the current administration is rushing to war even after U.N. chief weapons inspector Hans Blix's Friday report to the U.N. Security Council.

"It seems that especially hearing Hans Blix yesterday, that we are making some progress with the inspections and rather than our administration being able to even claim a win and doing what we ought to do ... I think (Bush is) just so bent on war," Andres said.

But anti-war protesters weren't the only voices present at the intersection. Freeport residents Christopher Clukey and James Mueller, who carried signs saying, among other things, "U.N. Out, U.S. In," said they were there to offer support for the U.S. going into Iraq.

"Saddam Hussein has been in power for 24 years," Clukey said. "We've been trying peace for 13 of those years, and so far it has done absolutely nothing except give him an opportunity to become more powerful. We know these folks like peace. Only an insane person would be pro-war but sometimes there is no other option."

That Iraqi lady is probably one of Saddam's plants he has sent to help promote the pro-tyranny line.

Hey, he has been known to do it- it was one of his agents here in America that sought out UNSCOM inspector Scott Ritter after a congressional hearing and bought him for S400,000 bucks.

And it was an Iraqi agent here in the US that sought out the dissident scientist Hamza at a university to deliver an intimidating message from Saddam Hussein.

Romania and the Soviet KGB used to fund anti-American demonstrations in Western Europe, Cuba and North Korea back some of the current "peace-protestors," so why wouldn't Iraq use its assets here in the states?

"Next time, the signs need to be more militaristic."

I recommend carrying a large American flag and your poster. Patriotism will set you apart, and it is instructive when leftists rally against the flag.

BTW - Love the phrase: "Smallpox: BAD, Freedom: Good!"

Excellent report and article. You've already recruited more people for the next freep and that is fantastic. Kudos for braving the peace-loving (NOT) peaceniks.

We have met a number of Iraqi Americans here in the DC area. They have friends and relatives still in the clutches of Saddam Hussein. Yet, they came out to counter protest the anti-war groups so they could tell everyone the truth about conditions and human rights violations in Iraq.

Good job FReeport FReepers! FReep On!

Good work folks. "We Gave Peace A Chance, We Got 9/11" works well as a sign.

She even claimed that Afghani women who wish to wear the burka are being forced to go without it by US troops. A real first class tinfoil head.

OMG don't tell me that the U.S. troops are now trained in fashion police techniques. I'd ask that airhead if she had the US government approval for her outfit that day. And if she hadn't gotten that approval that she was in direct violation of US code 9193882. If she fussed that she didn't need anyone's approval to wear her outfit, what would make her think that the US government cared what the women of Afghanistan wore.
Also bring a world map and see if anyone of these useful idiots can even find either Afghanistan or Iraq on a map.
You might even try a U.S. map to see if they know that the place in not in the US.

We have discovered that some of them don't appear to be able to read. Well, perhaps the little words like no and war, but not the big ones like liberate.

Good job! Way to go!!!

PS: Next time you post a Freep report, if you pick a title that reads like "Operation Infinite FReep: .........." it will automatically show up where the rest of us Sidewalk Freepers can easily find it. From the FR homepage if you click on the "Join Operation Infinite Freep" icon it brings up all the latest reports from Colorado, Fresno, Missouri, DC, Boston, Louisville, Houston and more. Have a look at what all of the thread titles look like. (How it works - look at the URL for that page - it includes the pattern match "search?s=Op+Infinite+FReep" - so that it just does a search of all threads with subject/titles that include the pattern "....Op....Infinite.....FReep.....").

Thanks for being there to represent the rest of us. Who cares about who has the most people there--two freepers are better than whatever their number is--and I always believe that somewhere in their crowd, a light was turned on and a heart was changed.

... To make a long story short, (brace yourselves) she gets her news from Arab media and is sure that the Western media are all censored.

Rolling my eyes at that one. She's hopeless--she's already been indoctrinated and clearly shares the same simple-minded mindset that the millions of socialists in Europe supporting Saddam and other terrorist regimes have.

Greetings Freepers, et al:

It seems the "most likely to have earned a section eight or alleged" veteran crowd, found a another brow beating tactic. Slimy Scotty Ritter often beat up newsies with a similar tactic; whenever a newsie would begin to question Ritter's 180 degree flip-flop.

If your "thanks for their service" doesn't calm them; you might want to respond with something like:

Tell me sir, what did you think about Al Gore disqualifying out our soldiers/sailors overseas absentee ballots? You've been hanging with the same crowd which supports the Gore military voter disenfranchisement scheme.

If you get any response other than agreement with you after that zinger, it is likely they are not a veteran. This veteran thanks you FReepers for supporting the young men and ladies of the US Armed forces. Don't forget to e-mail the troops with your FReep stories. They will love it. And consider the news source they suffer.
They're watching CNN.
