Yes, it's tragic her husband died. But $50 million? Sounds a wee bit greedy.

Very greedy. I don't agree with the lawsuit...
To: NEWwoman
Yes, it is tragic and she should not get a dime. This country will sue itself into the grave.
Otherwords SHIT HAPPENS and it will continue happen.

How about a civil suit against Steve "Millionaire" Hatfill? That could be somewhat amusing.

I'm very sorry that she lost her husband. These law suits are rediculous. Unfortunately war has victims, and we are at war weather we want to believe it or not.

Any sympathy I may have had for her has now evaporated.

It would be interesting to see if there are connections between the grieving widow, her crusading attorney, and any other individuals/groups with an axe to grind.
On the other hand, she may just be greedy. In any event, I agree with you vis-a-vis sympathy. All gone.

I do feel sorry for her, especially considering that she (and all the rest of us) are being intentionally misled about the actual source of anthrax.

If the suit or claim were more expressly directed at the federal governments pre-9/11 utter neglect of its one basic duty, national security,I could get behind it 100%.

Interesting idea. You make a good point in that we so often are *not* told what is really going on. Inquiring minds want to know.

Unfortunately, (correct me if I'm wrong) we can't sue the federal government for such things.

I don't know...if my spouse died this way, I'd be on a mission to get to the bottom of it, using whatever measures I had at my disposal. It just seems odd that if this were solely about money, why wait for 16 months? She could have jumped all over it the minute the Hatch-Rosenberg theories surfaced.
According to the article:
Maureen Stevens wants to get more information about her husband's death -- including a copy of his autopsy report
It is at this point a claim, not a suit. The $50 mil figure may not necessarily be greed-driven. It could simply be the impossible figure they calculated would preclude attempts to buy a quiet settlement with no info on her husband's death. If this proceeds to suit, it would be (as TGS notes) a good gambit to also name Hatfill.

Makes sense. Your theory sounds similar to #9. It will be interesting to see what happens, if anything.

Jump on over to this thread at the URL posted below, and pay particularly close attention to the Great Satan.
A warning: if you're accustomed to thinking conventionally (that is, the way most people do), be prepared for some serious mind-bending stuff.

Wow! Makes you wonder. Also, sounds like a plot for a Tom Clancy novel.
