New Appointment in JAG Corps.
sokol

Posted on 02/13/2003 11:30:32 PM PST by Sokol

I have recently been approved as an officer in the Army Reserve JAG corps. (I'm waiting to be sworn in). The response I have received from friends has been interesting. Some have congratulated me. Because I am 40, a few have questioned my sanity and some have asked why I am doing this especially when we are [perhaps] so close to war.

My response is that 9-11-01 influenced me greatly. I know that being a reservist may make little change, but my attitude is, "If I don't do something, who will." Perhaps that is melodramatic, but that is what I think.

The reason for this vanity post is to see if any JAG folks out there who have any advice before I begin this endeavor. Thanks.

Congrats. If you come across the jag who held up the bombing of Mullah Omar, early in the war, give him a good as*-kicking for me. Lawyers shouldn't be stopping our attacks. Even so, Good luck.

Sokol, I applaud and congratulate you for stepping forward. You're right, someone has to do it.

On a more (slightly) cynical note, folks like Sokol show that Saddam's goose is cooked. While a foreign despot may try to stand up against American air power, against the U.S. Army's airborne capability, against the U.S. Marines' Expeditionary Force, against two U.S. Naval Fleets and against U.S. Special Ops., he will be well and truly f**cked if we sic the American attorneys on his sorry butt.

A death by 10,000 cuts would (at least to me) be more preferable.

Let me join those congratualting you. Spouse was a USAF JAG. One of the associates in spouse's law firm is a USA reservist and was deployed somewhere in upstate NY to "backfill" a deployed unit. Lots of wills and powers of attorney.

Thanks for your service.

Congrats!

I wasn't a JAG Officer, but I was a commissioned MP Officer on active duty for 10 years...

I think you'll find the UCMJ to be an elegant code of laws. Good Luck!
