Are you sure? I haven't seen or heard it officially called a filibuster.
And I thought when you filibustered, only your party talked!

It only makes sense if she is calling the shots, because she is clueless.
I saw her yesterday with that Imelda Marcos necklace on. She is a complete political dunce.

From CBS News:
"If they want to stay through the weekend, we'll stay through the weekend," said Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.
Chance for a big snow storm this weekend in DC as well ...

Maybe Estrada should answer that question, and say "Sandra Day O'Connor is my hero on SCOTUS. As the FIRST woman seated on the bench, she was the one to break down the DECADES of minority status and DISCRIMINATION against women and serve as an INSPIRATION to other women around the world!!!
That out to shut them up, don't you think??

From NRSC email I just received:
Quote of the Day
Excerpt from Roll Call:
Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) countered with a threat to keep the chamber open for late-night debates this week and possibly terminating the planned Presidents Day recess next week. "We"ll stay as late as they would like tonight and tomorrow night," Frist said Wednesday. But my expectation is that by the end of this week, and before our recess, and possibly into our recess, we expect what all American people expect and deserve: an up-or-down vote on this outstanding candidate."

Guess who was on the pro-slavery side of the Dred Scott case? The Democrats. Each day in the Senate is a frontpage worthy scandal. That this ISN'T frontpage news - the first time a lower court nominee has been filibustered in US history - is proof of Big Time liberal bias.
Send this to Durbin:
Historical Timeline:
1854: Kansas-Nebraska Act-- Congress repeals Missouri Compromise; slavery in territory to be decided by voters of territory.
Republican party founded to oppose expansion of slavery into the territories.
1857: Dred Scott v. Sandford (6-1-2). Court rules Congress lacks the power to outlaw slavery in federal territory and that even free blacks cannot be citizens of the U.S. and are thus unprotected by Constitution's guarantees of individual rights.
Hinton Helper publishes The Impending Crisis an indictment of slavery. Republican party uses it as a campaign document. Southern states treat circulation of the book as a crime.
1860: North Carolina Supreme Court affirms Worth's conviction; Abraham Lincoln's election as a Republican president prompts South Carolina to lead the South to secession.
1861: Civil War begins with the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter.
Wyoming first state to grant women's suffrage.
1870: Fifteenth Amendment ratified; gives right to vote to black men, but not to women.
The following exerpts are from Vernon Wharton, The Negro in Mississippi (1865-1890). They describe the end of Reconstruction in Mississippi:
"Once the general policy had been adopted [by self styled Redeemers] that Negro and Republican control of state government was to be broken at tany cost, a number of methods were followed for its accomplishment. One of these involved the intimidation of those whites who still worked with the Republican party . . . As early as December 1874 the Hinds County Gazette declared that death should be meted out to those who continued their opposition. 'All other means having been exhausted to abate the horrible condition of things [Republican rule effected by a white Republican coalition with newly freed African Americans] the thieves and robbers and scoundrels, white and black, deserve death and ought to be killed . . . The thieves kept in office by [Republican] Governor Ames . . . ought to be compelled to leave the State or abide the consequences.' p. 185
* * *
"Against the Negroes themselves one of the most poweerful forces use dwas economic pressure, All over the state, Democratic clubs announced that no Negro who voted Republican could hope for any form of employment the following year . . .
"[T]he democratic leaders of the state, while they often denied the existence of violence, or tried to shift the blame for it to Negroes, never actually repudiated its use . . . [T]he Democratic press adopted the slogan, 'Carry the election peaceably if we can, forcibly if we must." . . . Democratic clubs provided themselves with the latest style of repeating rifles." p. 187
* * *
A few nights later, the Republicans endeavored to hold a meeting in Yazoo city. Their hall was invaded by a number of Democrats, led by their 'rope bearer,' H. M. Dixon. In the confusion which followed a native white Republican was killed, and several Negroes were wounded. The white sheriff escaped with his life by fleeing to Jackson. White militia then took charge of the county, and systematically lynched the Negro leaders in each superior's district. p. 191
Background Note: Post Civil-War Gilded Age: All presidents (except Cleveland, a conservative Democrat) were Republican. Laissez faire and limited government were dominant ideologies.

They haven't officially labeled it a filibuster is my understanding as well. Sen Frist said he is prepared to stay all night if necessary so we may soon see a full scale filibuster.
Bring it on -- the ads for 2004 are going to be great!

Did everyone catch this
Flip-Flop from Landrieu?WASHINGTON -- Sen. Mary Landrieu on Tuesday backed a Democratic filibuster designed to block a vote on President Bush's judicial nomination of Miguel Estrada, just weeks after she ran a campaign ad that said she supported the nominee.

Lemmings works for me! They sure don't have an independent thought. No wonder Miller isn't runny again! Can you imagine being stuck with these people? I would walk across the aisle if I were him and then tell the people of GA that he replaced Coverdale a Republican and was returning that seat to its rightful Party!

Not amazing. Through Terry McAuliffe, she has her hands on the money. Only a few of them are able to withstand that pressure.
To: Howlin
If you listen carefully, the Dems will only yield the floor to another Dem, or to a Republican for a question or comment. By yielding only for a question or comment, they do not give up control of the floor. This is a filibuster. Technically, Frist can force the Dems to keep talking around the clock simply by denying them the right to adjourn the proceedings and still have the floor the next day. In that case, if the first person recognized the next morning by the chair is a Republican, he/she can call the question for a vote.

The people of Louisiana got taken by her spin. She also told them she would remain a member of the Senate Armed Services -- wrong -- Hillary took that seat from her!

Evil twins are right! How NY be so dumb to elect those two? Our office is spending every hour until Nov 2004 to undo one of those elections. If Spanish-speaking members (preferably with some consulting experience) wish to assist with that particular area, please reply to me privately.

Frist can end this immediately by simply insisting on CONSTANT floor presence by Democrats...all night long, all weekend long. The monent they stop, bring it up for a vote. Not sure why the GOP is holding back on this.
To: Howlin
Nope, I believe from my limited knowledge of filibusters, (Mr.Smith Goes To Washington), that you can yeild the floor for questions.

Miss Marple and I came to conclusion shortly after she took office that Hillary was calling the shots! Almost from day one those moronic RAT women Senators would stop by to see her before casting their vote. One time you actually saw her nod yes to widow Carnahan on the Tax Cut vote.
One Feinstein never stops before going to vote. In fact, a lot of times she has walked in with Republican Senators down their aisle and back up it avoiding Hillary completely.
