Posted on 02/10/2003 5:23:54 PM PST by tall_tex

I was jus surfing the threads here on FR and got a pop up on my screen warning me that FR was not encripted (spelling) and may not be safe.

Any body else getting that kind of notice?

Thanks,

Tom

Have you upgraded your browser recently? What you describe is usually a "pop-up" that can be disabled with a check box. Upgrading from a previous version where you had turned off that warning, would require you to again turn off the warning.

Did you just change your browser or its settings? Had you just left an encrypted site?

FreeRepublic is not encrypted because there is no need to encrypt it. Some browsers try to warn you about transitions from encrypted to decrypted and vice versa.

And as cmsgop said, if you came from a secure site to this one which is NOT encrypted, would prompt that pop-up warning.

The spelling has never been "safe" around here. I guess it's so bad now that browsers warn people about it.

Have you changed any of the preferences in your browser recently? Like the advanced 'warn if changing between secure and insecure' in IE preferences?

Do you have a firewall or firewall software? Do you use anti-virus software?

If not, you may have been hacked by a practical joker. Seriously.
