I think the Navy uses the term "unexcused leave" Being in the Army, I prefer AWOL myself. Sounds more serious.

I thought everybody called it AWOL. I guess I wasn't paying attention for 20+ years in the Army. The UCMJ applies to all services so I guess it doesn't matter what you call it. These fellows are going to be looking at bars every day, civilian or military. No beer will be served, however.

I just looked at your profile. I really am out of the loop. I didn't know that the 24th ID replaced the Big Red one at Fot Riley. I was in both divisions. I was at Ft Stewart when they activated the Taro Leaf Division. I was a sergeant at the time. I later did a tour at Ft Riley as a second lieutenant/first lieutenant. I had a 50 acre farm out near Wakefield.

If they are "unexcused", they cannot have been given "leave".
I was about to ask the same question.

Sounds like Terrorism to me and they should be Executed or Jailed for Life just as we would if they were Muslim Extremists attempting to blow-up a military base.

They would show up, except they might have been the guys who were just arrested. ;o)

OK....let's see....24th was at Ft. Stewart when I got there....when Clintoon started the slash and burn of Army divisions....24th ended up on the list....we became the 3rd ID (April pf 1996)....just a change of patches and some unit re-designations...but the people were the same. The 3rd ID in Germany became the 1st ID with a brigade combat team remaining at Ft. Riley. The 24th was re-established in 1998 at Ft. Riley. The head shed and some of it's support elements are all active duty like me, but the three combat manuver brigades are Army national Guard units. Make sense? LOL!

Three brigades are guard units? Pretty weird. It must be lonesome up on Custer Hill. No, I guess it doesn't make much sense to me.

There were two (AWOL) marines and a third accomplice, I'd be interested in learning more about this 27 yr. old woman who was their accomplice. Did they know her from before? Did they hook up with her after leaving LeJeune, and was it she who suggested this bomb plot? I ask that because they don't sound like the sharpest knives in the drawer. Lots of questions to be answered here.

And desertion PLUS sabotage SHOULD be good enough for a quick one-way trip in front of a firing squad.

If they're guilty, they should face a firing squad.

Morons. They would have been better off purposely rolling an ankle during PT, playing crazy, or dressing up in women's clothes.

Year before last 2 army soldiers stole sticks of dynamite from a construction company and had placed them near and around Fort Bragg. One of the soldiers was in my son's platoon. Needless to say they are still locked up. I will do a search for this article.
