God bless that wonderful crew.......and their families; and you, as well, for providing such a record for posterity.

I recall the thread and am glad that we got the press (tragic event that it was, the final voyage was observed and marvelled at by those who did not realize what they were truly seeing).
I have to wonder though if they learned of the FR thread from FR or the DU thread that pointed at it (after the fact).

Don't know. But, to Tom Kuntz, thank you for a nice piece and thank you from the FreeRepublic community.

Wow! FR makes the Times! I must be dreaming! I expect a surge in traffic once NY Times subscribers read this. And with that, a whole new crop of disruptors. It will be busy enough with war imminent -- I sure hope JimRob and company are prepared! I can't imagine what I'd do if FR were down during the opening hours of the war. I've become spoiled, expecting to read of breaking events within seconds of their occurrence!

Same here... as a matter of fact, I hit Free Republic as soon as I heard the shuttle was gone. I kept reading updates before they hit the news on the TV behind me.

You realize, of course, that your thread is going into the history books -- already there if you consider that the Times gets microfilmed by most libraries. I have archived the first 150 posts.

I was just thinking the other way. Drudge linked a Paglia thread yesterday and now this.
Welcome to new Lurkers and Members. We don't bite, usually.

There was a picture posted earlier of a family smiling with the debris.

I always come here first for breaking news. It's interesting that this ran in the Times at all, considering THEIR source had to be the Wall Street Journal. How humiliating.
