Hoffman blasts Bush's war plans

Hoffman accused the Bush administration of "manipulating the grief of the country" after the events of September 11.

The president's real motives for going to war are power and oil, he said.

He spoke out after receiving a lifetime achievement award at the Empire Film Awards in London.

"For me as an American, the most painful aspect of this is that I believe that that administration has taken the events of 9/11 and has manipulated the grief of the country and I think that's reprehensible," he said.

"I don't think, like many of us, that the reasons we have been given for going to war are the honest reasons.

"If they are saying it's about the fact they have biological weapons and might have nuclear weapons and that gives us the liberty to pre-empt and strike because we think they might hit us, then what prevents Pakistan from attacking India, what prevents India from attacking Pakistan, what prevents us from going into North Korea?

"I believe - though I may wrong because I am no expert - that this war is about what most wars are about: hegemony, money, power and oil".

Hoffman pointed out that the US had once funded Saddam Hussein's regime even as he killed tens of thousands of Kurds. He added that he believed all politicians were incapable of telling the truth.

"If I was asked what is the most important aspect of being a politician, I would say getting re-elected. And when that's the goal, then all bets are off with the truth".

What irks me is about the Hollywood lefties is that they always speculate about what is going on inside of Bush's head. Dusty, until you become a mind reader SHUT YOUR TRAP.

I wonder if there is somebody out there with some organizational skills who is sick and tired of these Hollywood communists throwing in with terrorists and dictators against their own country and who has the time and wherewithall to organize a nationwide boycott against each and every Hollywood leftist who has come out publically advocating appeasement to mass murderers.

Since none of these leftists has a scintilla of a clue as to what those in the Defense Department and the President know about Saddam Hussein and his capabilities for murdering large numbers of human beings, the only conclusion one can draw from the statements made by these people is that they despise this country and its president so much that they wouldn't mind seeing another 911 happen and know that there is less of a chance of that as long as Hussein is taken out.

I am creating my own boycott list and the names of the America haters in Hollywood is getting longer by the day. Contrast these POS with the Hollywood of the 1940s- the actors during WWII proudly and publically rallied behind their nation, the men who were fighting the war,(one or two even joined up to fight), and they did what they could to uplift the American people and keep spirits high.

I would like to see the Hollywood bottom line begin to vanish because of the position these people have taken. Leftists scratch and grub for money more than anyone, contrary to their pious declarations of oneness with the world's poor, and if box office receipts started to plummet, these bottomfeeders would slither back into their $50 million caves and we'd be blessedly spared anymore of their venom.

I could forgive them if their transgressions, in this day and age, weren't so actively *dangerous*. These people are naive. They don't live in the world you and I do. They have people who cater to their needs every day, they're surrrounded by yes-men...hell, I'm a *nobody*, but even I get "yessed" to death by people when I'm in LA...nothing against ALL of LA (in fact, a lot of the LA natives really get annoyed about all of that and end up in Northern California, which, although liberal, is *far more tolerant*), but sometimes...I mean, what is being an actor even worth these days? With reality TV, we've eliminated the writers, the scripts, and the GOOD actors (anybody remember the scene I'm thinking of in "The Player"?)...the perfect example of a modern celebrity is Jacko. The more nuts you are these days, the more press you get. We want a 24-7 freakshow. George Carlin is right about that one (pity we can't get him to realize he's a conservative, George Carlin is right about many things :p).

Ben Stein was on a talk show tonight and then Eric Roberts showed up. Stein let into Roberts pretty good about the need to get rid of Hussein. Roberts did not react and even was lame in his response. The crowd cheered Ben Stein and booed Roberts rather loudly.
