RALEIGH, N.C. -- Senate leader Marc Basnight named Senate committee members Tuesday, including a first for him - selecting four Republicans as chairmen.
Democrats will continue to head the powerful Appropriations and Finance committees, which set budget and tax policy, but GOP senators will head a judiciary committee and serve as co-chairs of education, health and information technology committees.

This doesn't pass the smell test. @sswipe wouldn't do this for magnanimous reasons.

Of course he wouldn't!
I'm guessing the R's in question must be RINOs or are otherwise compromised.

Basnight, D-Dare, said he chose the Republicans to foster bipartisanship and cooperation. And he actually expects us to believe this? Bwahahah!

"I gave a unity speech on the Senate Floor as we convened session last Wednesday. I truly believe it is time to put aside partisan bickering and come together for the common good. I know there are several Democrats that agree we are not going to tax ourselves into prosperity. If legislators are free to vote their conscience, we may be able to get things done."

Gee, great, wow, thanks alot King Mark for throwing us four of the MOST USELESS bones in the state Govt.
The Judiciary is a useless crumb since the judges who are not elected are healthy enougth to be around a while.
The education post is a trap since NC's education system will probably disintegrate this year and Ol King Mark will blame the pubbies for it.
Health is a joke too!
And as for IT, well how many unemployed ITers do you know? That commitee will be disbanded before long!
So once again, thanks King Mark for NOTHING!

The value of these particular committees is not important. What is important is that the rats who got screwed out of those chairmanships will become a pain in the guys ash. And THAT is what IS good about all of this.
