Galaxy, Globemaster and Hercules transports are now flying night and day over the Gulf, ferrying their share of a mountain of equipment the United States must put in place before it is fully ready for war with Iraq.
Most land or take off from two hub bases here in Qatar after dark, but there is nothing covert about their low roar over Doha city.
If, as some reports suggest, President George W. Bush is considering giving Iraq six more weeks to comply with United Nations demands, it is not simply diplomatic calculation or patience: his military needs that extra time to deploy...

Logistics always dictate the timing of an offensive (unless George McLellan is in charge, that is).

Yep. Those tanks still run on diesel.

What happened to those giant roll on roll off ships that were loaded way back in Sept-Nov? And what about all of the prepositioned equipment? If they are sending personell now...their equipment is already there.

And some of the combat units probably had to have much needed training neglected in Clinton's PC military

Is anyone as impressed with our strategy as I am? We have Saddam all tied up moving stuff from one hiding place to another while he should be setting up his defenses. Meanwhile we are moving our troops and arms into position.
Checkmate!

What about C-141 Starlifters? Are they finally out of the sytem? Not retired quite yet, due to be retired by the reserves from '03 to '06. They didn't use them in Afganistan so maybe they are not being used now.

Don't they run the gas tubrine M-1s on jet fuel?

Fond memories of the C-141. I took basic training at Ft Lewis right next to McCord AFB and listened to the C-141 take offs and landings from Vietnam all hours of the day/night. Then in 1984 I left Ft Hood, TX on a C-141 for Germany, what a trip! It had a female load master who could have taken on Jesse. What a gorilla. We had ammunition on board so the Air Force no smaking policy kicked in. One first Sergeant was having withdrawl so went forward to one of th elatrines to have a smoke. The vent fan was pulling the smoke out into the cargo compartment. The load master about beat the door down trying to get him to come out. What a sight! She was jumping up and down and yelling/swearing about who was smoking in her *&*&&^&^^&$$&^ airplane.
Good memories.

Or Patton. If supply doesn't get it to you, steal it.
Had a supply E-5 in RVN. He was a rather light skined Black man, so he could pass for Hispanic when the laundry sent him a shirt for a 1LT Lopez from 1st Cav.
He saw it as a sign from God that "Lt. Lopez" should sign for everything in sight.
Remember Patton's constant comment when he was supposed to stop in place..... "Just straightening the lines, Ike. Just straightening the lines."

Loved watching a C-141 take off, with the pointed nose down!

I don't know. They were awfully leaky, though. I hope they're gone.

Yep.
Come to think of it.
That's the criticism.....we should target one fuel for the entire fleet.
