WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Pentagon has launched an investigation into allegations of possible misconduct by the man who would lead U.S. forces in the event of a military strike on Iraq, CNN has learned.

Army Gen. Tommy Franks, the head of the U.S. Central Command, has been under investigation for some weeks now by the Pentagon inspector general's office. It is not clear how serious the allegations are, or what direction the probe has taken.

Wasn't there something about SecDef Rumsfeld sending down a top military aide to assist Franks? This may be the answer!

I can't see any big deal in these investigations. But if they didn't do it the Democreeps would be all over them for failing to do so. I don't think anything will come of this.

the most serious may be that Franks allowed his wife, Cathy, to be present during discussions of highly classified material. These sources said there are also questions about whether Franks properly repaid the government for his wife's travel on military aircraft.

========================

Sounds familiar, huh, Hillary?

Yes, I hope he's frank with us and tells us how it is.

Yup. It's a contingency to ensure that the new commander is already fully up to speed if Franks has to leave. Which either suggests that there may be a lot more to this than CNN knows, or that Rummy is merely being careful on the eve of war.

None of them seem too serious so hopefully it will be settled quickly.

After spending 29 years in the Army, I can tell you these are part of the cost of being a General. Everybody and his brother can lodge a complaint with the IG, or worse, with their Congressman. And everyone of those has to be investigated. Our Generals had them all of the time. 99.9% were baseless.

I would suggest not jumping the gun on this, and wait until the report is submitted.

Unacceptable if true, of course. But it pales in comparison to allowing Hitlery the same indulgence these past ten years.

I heard something about allegations that he is not "all-beef," was not cutting the mustard, and that they grilled him, confirmed their wurst fears, noted that he was on a roll, and realized that their suspicions were pretty much in the ball park....

Thanks! I was sure I had heard that. I would bet there is a lot more here if this much got out, but I could be wrong.

Never felt Franks was the person to lead this effort, but what do I know! Just something I couldn't put my finger on.

This is trash.

This man's wife is one of the heads of the family support groups that will organize, inform, care for, and focus thousands of families while their loved ones are deployed. As a matter of fact, under family support group regulations, I remember provisions that specifically allow for military funds to be spent on the involvement of family members in activities that would benefit family support groups.

This is a low blow and unworthy of the enemies or the bean counters who have done this. I'd fire them.

Truman said he had the utmost confidence in MacArthur, just before he sacked him, publicly.

Oh nooo these people who made the allegations were probably people who disliked him. This makes it all the more fun for them. Its all politics NO MATTER WHERE YOU WORK! I found that out the hard way!
