Space Shuttle Columbia is in a decent for the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and will pass over the San Francisco Area around 6:00 AM Pacific Time. Route will take the Shuttle over Las Vegas, Flagstaff, etc. NASA has still not decided which runway will be used. Landing will be at 9:16 AM Eastern.

The power of the live thread finally shows its face : )

Live threads are indeed one of the big thrills of FR.

LOL, someone SCOOPED you, I guess...

Yeah, I did a search and couldn't find it at FR. Looks like the "scooper" completely changed the title of the original story, which is an FR no no as I understand (in order to avoid duplicative posts).

Fascinating to read the thread "as it happened".

We're helping to shape history yet again. WTG, FReepers.

This mention in WSJ just may get FR into the top 1000 websites, too. We were #1251 just last week. (Freerepublic.com is Gaining on Their Competition)

FR also scooped the world press on the 7.9 Alaska earthquake. It's quite a thing JR created.

Not bad for a bunch of "scary" "hardcore whackjobs" on the "radical" "lunatic fringe."

What a difference a newspaper makes.

Thank you for posting this. No surprise, really. Freepers are an anomalously well-informed and intelligent minority in this fair republic. I have long thought that there are many who lurk and mine data here for nuggets of truth and insight. Scooping the AP is nice, but not the most important thing.

The political insight and exposure of the lies of the Left are the critical factors. Would that we could get the powers-that-be to pay closer attention to truths found in this forum, exempli gratia: Mia T's brilliant depictions of the crushing corruption of the Clintons; backhoe's links to the supporting data; alamo girl's lists, the generally clear understanding of the threat from the Islamonazis, etc., etc....

As for the shuttle, it is a blessing to see both the compassion shown here for the families affected and the willingness to face the truth.

Leadpenny's post at 9:05am is now poignant: "little commo problem right now."

Since we're reviewing this historic event through FReepers' eyes, let's post a link to one of the better memorials I've seen... the THREAD OF SILENCE

We also scooped the world on the Anthrax cases in Florida when the 'experts' were calling it one isolated case.

Sorry. It's hard not to think of that horrible day in 1986.

Just too bad this scoop had to be about such a sad event.

BTW we also got an eyewitness report on the arrest of the snipers one early AM.

Someone saw the helicopters closing in before it was reported on any news outlets.

I about fell out of my chair when I logged on Saturday and saw that the thread about 'Commo problems with the Columbia during reentry(I forget the exact wording)' had hundreds of responses already attached to it. Even before the thread loaded I knew just by the amount of responses what had happened. Reviewing the play by play, catching up to speed, and then following it live just doesn't happen anywhere else.

Please change name in thread title to "Columbia," not "Challenger." Thanks in advance
