Shuttle Contact LOST-No Tracking Data During RE-Entry!

Shuttle has NOT been heard from or seen on tracking radar since 0800Hrs CDT. No contact at Merrit Island tracking station, no voice comm...DEVELOPING.

I am so sorry to hear this. As one person has said, it's on the ground one way or another by now. It's a glider and can't stay up.

NASA Loses Communication with Shuttle Ahead LandingSat February 1, 2003 09:27 AM ET CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (Reuters) - The U.S. space agency NASA said it lost contact with the space shuttle minutes before a scheduled landing on Saturday as it crossed the United States with seven astronauts on board.
The shuttle's landing was overdue after it was planned to arrive at the Kennedy Space Center at 9:16 a.m. EST. NASA officials lost contact with the orbiter at about 9 a.m.

I live 120 miles from Dallas and heard the noise clearly. Couldn't figure out what it was. Now we know. Very, very bad news.

Columbia was 25 years old, and carrying a 40,000 lb. spacelab. Inflight breakup is the most likely scenario.

Our local station has pictures of it breaking up. Reporter at Fair Park was taking pictures and got pictures of it coming apart.
