At the request of members, I am restarting those "Tales from the Dark UnderBelly Of the Beast"-- the stories and issues that the press and media either ignore, won't even talk about, or will mention once and forevermore claim "it's old news..."
Naturally, some will be stories which interest me, or things I think we all need to be aware of.
I am experimenting with a minor change in presentation- when I can, I will cut to
-GoogleNewsBeta--
with a keyword or two and see what kind of links to "mainstream" stories I can find in contrast to what we see here and on other sites.
May I remind you of a couple of points to bear in mind?
Each link usually has many other links within- follow them all to get "the rest of the story."
Don't forget the "open multiple browsers" trick with control-n -- this allows you to hold your place with one, and use the others to follow links, run searches, etc.
Rather than go back and rehash old links, I'll give you links to the original posts here:
-DUBOB 10- the *best of* the Dark Underbelly Series--
-DUBOB 9-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast..... --
DUBOB 8-- still *more* tales from the Underbelly***
DUBOB 7-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....
DUBOB 6-- yet *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....
DUBOB 5-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....
DUBOB IV- yet more Tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast-
DUBOB III -- "Tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast"

Blogging's Greatest Mystery
Cerberus asks the million reader question;"It seems that, during the election, Liberal bloggers pretty much got their butts kicked by a much larger, much more determined, much broader and much more widely read (both by John Q. Public and media interlopers) conservative blogs. We started to catch on only in the last 2 weeks or so as more Liberals, out of desperation, suddenly "got it" about blogs."
The primary reason that liberal/left bloggers in both Canada and the US have so much more difficulty gaining traction in the way the conservative-shere has isn't really a mystery - they compete with the majority of voices in mainstream media for their readers - and we don't. Comments (31)

Keith Windschuttle: Howard, cultural warrior
By standing up to radical Muslims at home, the Prime Minister is a role model for other Western leaders
February 21, 2006
YESTERDAY two political leaders responded to the big issue of our time. In Australia, Prime Minister John Howard observed that radical Islam is "utterly antagonistic to our kind of society".
In India, the Minister of Minority Welfare of Uttar Pradesh, Yaqoob Qureshi, offered a $14 million reward to anyone who beheaded one of the Danish cartoonists who drew images of Mohammed.
In their own distinct ways, both may contribute to Western countries recognising how serious, and how long-standing, is the challenge of radical Islam to the core of their culture.

Now that President Bush has come out solidly in favor of the UAE ports deal, I would be remiss not to re-examine the whole affair. So unlike most of my readers here and most of the American public for that matter I have the time to do just that. But first a word of advice to all:

Mosque Attack Pushes Iraq Toward Civil War
http://fallbackbelmont.blogspot.com/
Storm clouds over Baghdad
Iraq the Model adds this eyewitness account of the hornet's nest stirred up by the Shi'ite mosque explosion. His bullet points are reproduced verbatim below.
- President Talabani promises to make rebuilding the shrine his personal responsibility and to donate the required money from his own.
- Head of the Sunni endowment sheikh Ahmed al-Samarra'I announces that he will allocate 2 billion dinars (~1.4 million $) for the rebuilding of the shrine from the treasury of the Sunni endowment.
- Huge demonstrations in many of Iraq's provinces including Samarra and Mosul where thousands of people condemned the attack.
- The top 4 Shia Ayatollahs hold a meeting at Sistani's home to discuss the situation.
- The Association of Muslim scholars and the Islamic Party condemn the "criminal act".
- Retaliatory attacks on reportedly 29 Sunni mosques and the Accord Front warns from the consequences of such violent reactions.
- Jafari in a press conference calls for national unity and the leaders of the UIA hold a meeting. A press release is expected to come soon.
- The Iraqi TV opened the phone lines to receive the reactions of the audience to the attack and hosts Sunni clerics and politicians in an attempt to relieve the tension.
- Baghdad is in undeclared emergency situation, shops closed and streets nearly empty.
- Tight security around the shrine of Abu Haneefa in Aazamiya district of Baghdad, this is considered the top shrine/mosque for Sunni Muslims in Iraq.
- Masked gunmen attack Shia protestors in at least one neighborhood in western Baghdad and armed clashes in Ghazaliya and Hay al-A'amil.
- People exchange phones calls with their relatives and friends to check on them and discourage them from leaving their homes.

NBC News has obtained new documents regarding the shooting accident involving Vice President Dick Cheney. Vanderleun's "Moist Men" --Kind of a new horiffic twist on Heather has Two Mommies.
Filed under "You Can't Make This Drivel Up," find the all-too-kind "book" "review" at
American Digest. Both words have scare quotes because it's not really a tome, it's a creepy children's agitprop tale.
And Mr.Vanderleun does not so much review this...this...thing so much as he attempts to understand it by dissecting it. His description of the author and his ilk is apt: he calls them "moist men," for moist they are, and moldy. Not to mention unmanly.
How in God's creation did we end up with so many geldlings?
Here's some nice scathing commentary on Why Mommy is a Democrat:
Maybe hes treating them to solid values like; Democrats believe in killing the unborn, just like Mommy does. Or perhaps this one; Democrats believe President Bush is a mentally challenged Chimp, just like Mommy does. He could then drive the point home with this deep insight; Democrats believe individual achievement is unfair, just like Mommy does.
The Republic of Biloxi ...I wrote a note to the author suggesting the next title could be "Why Mommy is a Moonbat". :)

William J. Bennett and Alan Dershowitz agree on "A Failure Of The Press".
Tim Denton mounts a defense of blogging. (Scroll up for the original post). " The ability to blog is both cheap and élitist at the same time. If we had no time, we could not blog. If we had no skills, we could not blog. But we have the time and the skills and we can provide the ballast, and the watchmen, in the ship of state."
A useful companion is Tim Denton's Netheads versus Bellheads. Denton and his co-authors argue conclusively that the Internet -- a stupid network in which the intelligence resides in the traffic -- trumps fixed intelligent networks like the telephone system and then explore the policy consequences therefrom. One of those co-authors, David Isenberg wrote The Dawn of the Stupid Network, which complements well the previous two works.

After reading and listening to huge amounts of debate on the UAE port deal, Ive decided that although I am definitely not a supporter of the deal, Im cautiously OK with it provided there is strict security supervision of the operations of DP World. (And Im singularly unimpressed with those who call the people questioning this deal, Islamophobic and un-American.)The most persuasive argument in favor (for me, anyway) is that if a terrorist group wanted to attack through the ports, there are many less risky ways to do it than by infiltrating the company that schedules port operations. link: 141 comments
The head of United Nations peacekeeping operations says the incidence of sexual abuse in areas supervised by his organization is ... uh ... too high.
There are still too many complaints of sexual abuse against United Nations troops, the head of peacekeeping operations has said.
Jean-Marie Guehenno said the UN had investigated 295 cases under a new reporting system introduced last year.
It could take several more years to reform the system fully, says Jordans UN envoy who last year urged changes.
The 18 peace missions worldwide employ 85,000 staff from over 100 countries, with a budget of nearly $5bn.
Mr Guehenno said although significant progress had been made in reducing the number of cases of sexual exploitation following an investigation in the Democratic Republic of Congo two years ago, much more needed to be done.
Allegations being lodged against UN peacekeeping personnel remain high and unacceptably so, he said. He noted how hard it is to change a culture of dismissiveness, long developed within ourselves, in our countries and in the mission areas.
"You call it sexual abuse. The UN calls it fringe benefits. "
If y'all haven't yet seen it, the movie Broken Promises covers a lot of the U.N.'s failures and disgusting behaviors.
My wife and I were the researchers for it (and for Celsius 41.11, made by many of the same folks), and hence, we can vouch---at very least---for the accuracy of the facts therein!

From The NEFA Foundation, video of the Islamic demonstration in London earlier this month outside the Danish embassy. Absolutely chilling. (Running time 11:23.)
"Most of us reading the reports and stories coming out of the UK concerning the Muslim demonstrations are shaking our heads in disgust with the Orwellian performance of both the media and the governments appeasement of radical Islamic protesters while prosecuting the few who dare speak the truth of the dangers of radical Muslim supremists to democracy. Only six months ago Islamic supremists exploded several buses and a subway train killing over 50 and wounding several hundred, and now we have pictures of them parading in suicide vests and holding signs reading "respect Islam" and "death to the Danes" and it is considered a lawful display of the right of free speech."
"The way I see it, tolerance is a two way street. These people are intolerant as hell and it's just insane to be tolerant of the intolerant. None of us is under any obligation to commit cultural suicide to prove how tolerant we are. My gosh, I used to be kind of liberal, but you can't be liberal with people like this. I mean, if you're normal, your survival instincts should kick in; mine did on 9/11. I just hate feeling this way, but I don't think there is any other choice.I'm sorry to rant on, but I'm just gobsmacked at how brazen these people are! They just stand there as big as you please and threaten the country that has welcomed them in. They do it because they can. "
Muslims are being told that Canada's Parliament sets the law, and as far as the Canadian government is concerned, the Prophet has as much protection as he deserves.

Ratner's Anti-Globalization Rant: No Foreigners Should Own Ports --Ratner discovers anti-globalization and racial profiling. If this deal yields nothing else, watching the Dems show their bigotry (and total lack of comprehension regarding foreign policy and realpolitiks) is worth the price of admission.--What about foreigners owning the 7-11 down the street, Ellen? Those brown-skinned guys could slip a little ricin into every cigarette pack and no one would know until it was too late.

At this time the Dems don't know what country is theirs.

3870 Pounds of Propane Stolen From Truck: Northeast Intel Network... Plus Some Related Local Photoinvestigation By TCS
On the heels of this post I recently did, based also upon an Northeast Intelligence Network report, involving a plot to utilize propane to blow up oil refineries,
this happens.
3870 pounds of propane were stolen from a propane truck in Maryland, from United Propane, 205 Najoles Road in Millersville, Anne Arundel County. Read the rest of it at the link.
It seems to be emerging that terrorists, likely associated with Al Qaeda, are plotting as we speak to blow up oil facilities inside America.
This is coming to light as is the AQ plans to do precisely the same in Saudi Arabia. An attempt at destroying a Saudi oil facility was recently foiled and Al Qaeda has declared they will try again and again... read about it at this FoxNews report.
This scares the hell out of me, for I live in a city with one such facility, the Irving Oil Refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick, the security of which is, as far as I can see by driving by on a daily basis, wholly worthless should a terror attempt be made thereon:
Muslim call backed--Australians have rallied behind Peter Costello's call for Muslim extremists to be stripped of Australian citizenship.
...with many saying they are sick of even hearing the word "Muslim".
