"My client had nothing to do with the low-rent, trailer-park trash politicians who infested our country for the past eight years."
(Michael Rosen was understandably eager to distance his client, a convicted loan shark, from the clintons. Another Thomas Gambino reportedly paid $50,000 to roger clinton in an unsuccessful effort to get a pardon for his father, Rosario Gambino.),

WRITTEN IN STONE: AN ARCHITECT DEFINES THE CLINTONS
If mutability of meaning was necessary for the survival of the clintons--their survival hinged ultimately on the deconstruction of words and laws--it is more than a little ironic, and a manifestation of the special sway and shortsightedness of the pathologic ego, that clinton's monument to himself will necessarily define the clintons with the permanance of great inviolate places of iconic architecture.
Whereas a huckster removes meaning from institutions --the wife picked up where the husband left off--an architect encodes meaning in buildings. James S. Polshek, the architect with the dubious distinction of having been commissioned to build the William J. Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, believes that a successful architectural solution must necessarily be rooted in relevance.
Just as Polshek's buildings have physical layers, so too do they have layers of meaning. His Rose Center for Earth and Space, for example, is informed formally and programmatically by the historic architecture of a designated landmark even as it redefines itself, (often too self-consciously, in my view), in Star-Trekian terms. Reduced to its essence, the building is the nascent universe before the Big Bang, the promise of the undifferentiated cell in its mother's womb,
The "bridge to the 21st century" was, perhaps, clinton's most delusional conceit, so it is not surprising that it would become clinton's self-referential metaphor of choice. His library was to be that bridge, if he had anything to say about it...
The flip side of the encoded meaning of the architect is the terrorist's decoding of it. To bin Laden, the World Trade Center was Jewish capitalism encoded in urban space. If Polshek's vision of clinton's library is a bridge, the inside joke is that, at best, it is a bridge to nowhere.

Just yesterday I saw her on the senate floor speaking against the high salaries of company CEO's..... Hillary Rodham Clinton, as a New York State Senator, now comes under this fancy "Congressional Retirement and Staffing Plan," which means that even if she never gets reelected, she STILL receives her Congressional salary until she dies. If Bill outlives her, he then inherits HER salary until HE dies. He is already getting his Presidential salary until he dies. If Hillary outlives Bill, she also gets HIS salary until she dies. Guess who pays for that? WE DO! It's common knowledge that in order for her to establish NY residency, they purchased a million dollar-plus house in upscale Chappaqua, New York. Makes sense. They are entitled to Secret Service protection for life. Still makes sense. Here is where it becomes interesting. Their mortgage payments hover at around $10,000 per month. BUT, an extra residence HAD to be built within the acreage to house the Secret Service agents. The Clintons charge the Federal government $10,000 monthly rent for the use of that extra residence, which is just about equal to their mortgage payment. This means that we, the taxpayers, are paying the Clintons' salary, mortgage, transportation, safety and security, as well as the salaries for their 12 man staff - and this is all perfectly legal! When she runs for President, will you vote for her? 4 posted on 01/26/2003 5:10 PM EST by shaggy eel |

EXCELLENT analysis. It seems the most expeditious solution for us "regular people" is to make certain the clintons' primary residence is the hoosegow. I cannot think of a more satisfying way of killing two birds with one stone. |

In my view, "Newgate" would be the perfect home for the clintons. Erected in rural country ("pleasant, airy, and salubrious," as Thomas Eddy called the site in his 1801 book), Newgate was located about two miles above City Hall in what is now Greenwich Village. (Selling point: Hillary-as-Giuliani-irritant is inversely proportional to distance of clinton abode from City Hall.) Construction was begun in the summer of 1796 and finished in late 1797. ![]() On four acres overlooking the Hudson River, the Doric-style building is of two stories with a cupola, surrounded by a stone wall ranging from 14 to 23 feet high. It contains 54 12-by-18-foot rooms designed for eight persons each; there are also 14 single rooms, eight feet by six feet and 14-foot high, with windows eight feet from the floor, for a total capacity of 446 occupants. A large room for a chapel was set aside, as were living quarters for the keeper and his family. Another two-story building of brick, 200 feet long by 20 feet wide, contains the work-shops. There is also a garden "in excellent order," as Eddy wrote. The entire cost of the grounds, buildings, and a wharf on the river-front was originally $208,846. The first 'residents' arrived Nov.28, 1797.

Caveat emptor! The clintons would be wrong to automatically equate the creepingly leftist location and incipiently leftist penal code of New York's first state prison with suitability. Although Newgate was the embodiment of a new, "more enlightened" penal code--prior to Newgate, 16 crimes were punishable by death in New York, including murder, rape, robbery, treason, burglary, the taking of goods from a church, forgery and counterfeiting--it must be emphasized that treason and murder were retained as capital offenses as were all other felonies, if committed a second time. Truth-in-advertising compels me to disclose that Newgate no longer exists. But this small detail should pose absolutely no problem for the clintons and their promiscuous campaigns, all of which being, after all, mock documentaries about non-entities, the paradoxical personification of nothingness.

This would be a good place to incarcerate the Clintons.
Most of it's underground and built during the revolution.
Rats, like the Clintons, prefer the dark... the night! HA!
Heavens, I love that quote. Especially considering the source. Thanks for the memories. Oh, and Bennett's comments too. Ah, that they are not in the People's House any longer makes every day better....
