"Bush wants to drop the "double tax" on dividends, but that's nothing. Wages withheld for Social Security may get hit three times, a burden on far more (less wealthy) Americans."
"The Really Unfair Tax" by Donald L. Barlett and James B. Steele
He uses words that Democrats would use, like "Conservation" and "The Environment", while he's deregulating the polluters and suggesting a tax rebate on SUV's.
p.s. More State of The Union hypocrisy to follow.

Babs' recommended reading for today includes scratch from Jesse Jackson, Tom Hayden, and Robert Reich, plus William Rivers Pitt's letter to CNN from 1/16. She's right on top of things.

Has Babs Struddlebrain released her Scratch 'n Sniff line yet?... You know, the one that purports to enlighten the mind while corroding the frontal lobe. It's claimed she's spend years testing and developing this new product line and it comes in many odors.

I'm going to go home and watch my "Mecha-Streisand" South Park video. Even if you don't like South Park, that one is definitely worth watching.

How exactly are Social Security taxes taxed 3 times?
Last i checked the SS taxes are taken from my paycheck and then my pay is taxed. So those SS taxes havent been taxed yet.
Then, if I live long enough to collect SS, and its still around at that time I pay tax on the receipt of the SS money. Thats tax #1.
Where are tax 2 and 3?

But if Barbra Streisand says something, it's almost guaranteed that it won't be the truth; or, if true, relevant.

Someone on the radio the other day (a radio host, can't recall which one) pointed out that Social Security is not based on your after-tax income, but on your before-tax income. That means it's taken out based on your gross, before you pay your income taxes -- no deduction for fed or state. So it's based on money you never see, for a start. In addition, the government recently raised (with little public comment) the amount of pay that you have to pay SS on. Then, when you begin collecting SS, you pay tax on it again. Thanks to Clinton, the percentage of SS that could be taxed was increased massively. Don't know how many taxes that adds up to, but it's the situation.

Although I'm generally one that enjoy's a chuckle any time Babs opens her mouth - I must say that the Time article isn't such a bad idea. As a member of the middle class, I don't really have a problem socking it to the mega wealthy. Most of them are probably liberals anyway and it will shut up the libs in Washington.
Bottom line, I don't care how they cut the taxes - I just want them to cut them - NOW. Cut it on dividends, reduce taxable income by the amount of Social Security & Medicare, bigger deductions - I don't care. Just make is happen now.
Maybe it would help to define what wealthy is. The Libs love ripping the wealthy. The only problem is that according to the IRS all of you wealthy sops in the top 25% of AGI make a grand total of $54K per year. My vote is if your income is over $1 Million/year. Of course if I ever make it there, maybe it should be moved to $2 Million (a guy can dream!)

Social Security may get hit three times, a burden on far more (less wealthy) Americans." Didn't someone raise Social Security taxes in '92? Hmmm. . . help me remember, Babs.

In rereading that post I just responded to, I think the situation is that you pay SS tax on your gross, but it is not a deductible expense, so when your fed and state income taxes are figured out, you are paying taxes on the taxes (the SS taxes).

I don't get it either. But I am sure babble streisand has it all figured out!
Also, anyone else notice how the dimis keep calling FICA a payroll TAX. If this is a TAX, then should not the government employees (including congress) all be paying this same TAX? Or is it a discriminatory TAX that only the private sector must pay? I think it is time for a class action lawsuit that requires all of them to fork into this fund they refer to as a payroll TAX.

Could Helen "The Penguin" Thomas, be Barbra's long lost mother. The resemblence between the two, both physically and psycho-emotively is striking.

I agree with your analysis, but the fact that soc. sec. taxes don't generate a credit or deduction hardly means they're taxed twice.
On the other hand, if Babs and the other airheads/meatheads want to eliminate taxes paid on soc. sec. benefits, hey I'm all for cutting taxes.

Once I had the opportunity to see Barbra perform. All I had to do was walk across the hall. It was free to me.
I didn't bother.
