Professor's Letter Refusal Causes Probe By LISA FALKENBERG Associated Press Writer

January 30, 2003, 9:50 AM EST

DALLAS -- A biology professor who refuses to write letters of recommendation for his students if they don't believe in evolution is being accused of religious discrimination, and federal officials are investigating, the school said.

The legal complaint was filed against Texas Tech University and professor Michael Dini by a student and the Liberty Legal Institute, a religious freedom group that calls Dini's policy "open religious bigotry."

My logic is inductive, not deductive.

All the crows I've ever seen are black

I infer all crows are black. I'll modify that when I see a crow that isn't black.

The two warblers I mentioned were classed as different species before Darwin even came along.

Ahh, but the spotlight of scientific inquiry has proven that they are not different species. Let's continue to shine that scientific spotlight on the ridiculous theory of evolution and see what crawls under the rock.

Do me a favor...

everytime you back up // driving---

think of this !

If you see yourself in the mirror...

your not driving // thinking safely (( gonna crash ))

you're going to have to adjust // angle the mirrors---

in the direction you're going (( not circles // spirals ))!

If evolution is so scientific, if it has such a mountain of evidence in favor of it, if it has evolved from theory to fact, if it is so logically sound, if creation is so mindless, then why don't you or your peers simply meet with the creationists and overwhelm them with the facts?

Lots of us have lots of different reasons. We see no evidence you can be won over with any of the above. We've concluded you're zealots. All of the above is available to you in any case; why should we spoon feed it to you? We really don't care if you're persuaded; we just want to make sure you don't get in the way of our science. By and large our encounters with you have been met with nastiness on your end. And so on.

there is more evidence in support of evolution than there is in support of gravity.

Creationists are an embarrassment to Christians the world over.

The funny thing is, the theory of evolution doesn't even need creationism as its bogeyman. It falls flat on its face all by its unscientific self.

But in science they are exposed to only one philosophy

I'd argue it's more likely they're exposed to none. Science works, regardless of what your view of science is. No philosopher of science, qua philosopher, has really made the slightest impact on science.

In your mind maybe. Care to share?

That post really shows your true colors. You see yourself and your acedemic peers as the only ones who know truth. There is a real world out there too you know.

OK, just use the same logic with evo. I'm sure you've observed macroevolution.

See for yourself that all crows are not black

I wonder what would happen if the good professor refused to give a recommendation to a Muslim.

No, it hasn't . Unless, that is, you claim to be the personal embodiment of 'the spotlight of scientific inquiry'. Me, I'll stick with the American Ornithological Union.

Yeah, I'm sure they have some first rate geneticists on staff (snicker, snicker).

An embarrassment to conservatives, too.
