Peterson: 'It's Been Incredibly Brutal'
Missing Woman's Husband Speaks With Local Reporters
POSTED: 5:28 p.m. PST January 29, 2003 UPDATED: 6:28 p.m. PST January 29, 2003
MODESTO, Calif. -- Under suspicion by the public and under scrutiny by the police, Scott Peterson spoke out again Wednesday about his missing pregnant wife, Laci, and again said he had nothing to do with her disappearance on Christmas Eve.
It was in a national interview Tuesday with ABC's Dianne Sawyer that Peterson first spoke at length about the case and his affair with a Fresno woman, On Wednesday he spoke again, this time with Bay Area television station NBC11.
"Obviously, yes I had a romantic relationship that was inappropriate and unfair to a lot of people, and I apologized to everyone involved with that. It had nothing to do with Laci's disappearance. I had nothing to do with Laci's disappearance, and we need to start looking for her again," Peterson told NBC11.
He also talked about how he's been dealing with his wife's disappearance.
"It's been incredibly brutal. During the day I know what to do. With the volunteer center, the core group of volunteers we continue to have to work to keep her picture out there through the groups and corporations and organizations. In the evenings I don't know what to do. Those are the dark hours when I lose it and I can't sleep, I go to exhaustion occasionally and get a couple of hours. But it's the dark, silent hours when I don't know what to do that are the hardest part," Peterson said.
Peterson also responded to a question about his previous silence.
"My silence previously was intended to keep the media involved in this case. It's a rationale that we developed after perhaps the third day she was missing. We know from experience of others ... that it's up to the family to keep the media. That's our biggest tool is the media. At this point, unfortunately, it has reached a point where suspicion of me is keeping people from searching for Laci," he said.
The case continues to draw interest from around the state and around the country.
Los Angeles radio station KFI-AM took its show live to the Peterson home Wednesday.
"We've been following this story from L.A. since it began like everyone else. As things begin to heat up, we want to come here, see what we can do," KFI-AM anchor Laura Ingle said.
During a national interview Wednesday, Peterson responded to questions about the $250,000 life insurance police he took out on his wife.
He said he and Laci both took out life insurance policies when they bought their home two years ago.

This guy was SO DRUGGED he could hardly speak or keep his eyes open. I wanted to ring his neck because he sounded SO MUCH like Bill Clinton with the EXCUSES, the phony tears and the ME, ME, ME attitude.

I didn't see the interview, but I saw it described just like you did. You know, since Clinton, you just have to parse everything these guys say.

Oh boy, right you are Howlin.
He went FREUDIAN....AGAIN.

What is with this habit of Scott's of saying "we"? For example, "it's a rationale that WE developed." And many other quotes.
Maybe someone told him to avoid the word "I" lest he look egotistical. That same person forgot to tell him that using "the royal we" makes one sound even more egotistical.

Would appreciate being added to your ping! Thanks.

This guy's body language cries GUILTY. I watched a bit of the interview with Diane Sawyer and when she asked him if he killed his wife his eyes shifted all over the place. I'm not an expert in the subject but that looks fishy to me.

"I..I..I..I..I..." It's all about YOU and YOUR pain and YOUR suffering, isn't it, Scotty Boy? (I have yet to hear him say anything compassionate or heartfelt about Laci and Connor and what THEY may have gone through.)

I missed this interview, but judging from the quotes and the description, it reminds me of Susan Smith. I knew she had killed those children when she started speaking. All of her comments were self-centered. "I can't sleep. I cry all the time. I...me...I...me."
This is the same thing.

I'll bet it WAS brutal.....and thinking about what he has done would make ANYONE sleepless!!!

I saw a reporter on FOX that interviewed Scott last night...He said Scott invited him in the house, and told him to take off his shoes and come in...he was only allowed in one room, and Scott took total control of the interview....I thought Scott telling him to remove his shoes before he came in was rather odd....I wonder if the police sprayed any luminol around the house....

Yes, and he never wants Laci to be returned to HIM ("me"); he always says to US. Because he says it so many times, and always that way, implying to the families, it makes him seem very distant himself from Laci.

This guy has done alot of strange things lately....one of his neighbors apparently saw him carting off a large object wrapped in a blue tarp the morning Laci disappeared....the neighbor called the police and Scott said it was one of those large patio table umbrellas...he apparently took it to some storage shed he uses for his work...

I just hope he gets caught like Susan Smith did and doesn't do a Gary Condit or John and Patsy Ramsey.
What kind of a sick *%$^ could kill his wife and yet to be born son?

First of all, it's my opinion that SP has a sort of 'forced eloquence' in his manner of speech.
Secondly, the life insurance policy on Laci was taken last summer, not two years ago. So many discrepencies.
Oh...and about not being able to sleep? Nope. He looks well rested. Again, imo.
