Standoff ends in surrender

A Dallas police standoff ended just before 1 p.m. as authorities fired tear gas into a home on Metropolitan Avenue in South Dallas and took into custody three people who were suspected in two Wednesday morning robberies.
The first robbery occurred about 8:30 a.m. at a store on Military Parkway. In the second robbery, at Four Seasons Grocery in the 3900 block of Myrtle Street, the store owner was shot shortly after 9 a.m.

The 47-year-old man was struck three times and taken to Baylor University Medical Center for treatment. A hospital spokesperson said the unidentified man was in fair condition.
Police said his injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
The three suspects emerged from the house on Metropolitan Avenue with their hands in the air as heavily armed and armored police approached them during the surrender.
Nearby Wheatley Elementary in the 2900 block of Metropolitan Avenue and Dunbar Learning Center in the 4200 block of Metropolitan Avenue were locked down as a precaution. Authorities said students were safe.
