Oh I am, I am. I don't see how rewarding people for screwing up and getting aids will discourage the behaviour which leads to it. This is worse than welfare it not only rewards people for doing nothing it rewards screwing up. I don't see how this money is actually going to the people either. The scenario will play out something like this.
US to local African thug: Heres your AIDs money check
Thug: Okay... Cha-Ching to Switzerland you go
People: Where are those AIDs drugs?
Thug: Its Americas fault they lied because they're evil.
People: Lets ask those Saudi mosques they've been telling us America is evil for a long time.
I don't see how funding research to fight a disease is "rewarding" people. Is increased funding for a cancer a "reward" for those with terminal lung cancer?
Fighting AIDS will help in all other aspects of medical research, because really when you talk about finding a cure for AIDS, you are talking about finding a cure for viruses in general (which, for the most part, we cannot do yet).
Also, you are assuming that Bush will just write a check to dictators in Africa. I believe it will not be distributed in that manner.
Apparently, you don't know the first thing about how AIDS is spread in Africa. Women and children get it, innocently.
Stopping AIDS in Africa is going to involve a whole lot more than lectures from a bunch of do-gooders.
