I think Donald Rumsfeld would be a very tough boss, he has many decisions to make, but I'm sure his goal isn't to be popular, either with the military establishment or the media (especially the media.)

one officer estimates that as many as 1 in 3 senior officers questions the wisdom of a pre-emptive war with Iraq.

Let's see - quote an anonymous source without even so much as a rank and throw in a soundbite figure (1 in 3 senior officers . . .) - that's how these guys work it.

I don't like the idea of him micro-managing. It seems to me that Mr. McNamara did this in the Vietnam war. Wouldn't it be better to let the people who know what they are doing, tell you how to do it.

You are right on -- this is not, nor do we have time for a popularity contest!

Wow! Actual reporting out of Time magazine. It's been years.

BTW - What is the current thought on "GO" dates? I'm just looking for informed conjecture, not actual knowledge. If you really know, keep it to yourself.

Some who have worked with Rumsfeld say his interpersonal skills are shabby, however charming he is on camera. "Rumsfeld's a bully; he's arrogant, and he has a huge ego," says a senior Army officer with more than 30 years' experience in uniform.

Reminds me of that scene in Top Gun:

"You think your name will be on that plaque?"

(response) - "Yes, Sir."

"That's pretty arrogant, considering the company you're in."

(response)- "Yes, Sir."

"I like that in a fighter pilot."

Rumsfield still hasn't accomplished much.

We'll see.

Rummy is the kind of guy who just can't relax. Something tells me he didn't "waste time" watching the Super Bowl last night. Good article.
