Xmen and Matrix will come out in May one week apart, T2 will come out one week after the Hulk on July 3rd so it will be competing against T2. I think there is a lot of pent up demand for seeing this new Hulk and the old Marvel fans will be looking forward to this more than T2. T2 will make a lot of money, but a solid comic fan base is a great advantage IMHO. Just remember, Spiderman came up against the almighty Episode II and Spiderman took the steam out of Episode II. The Marvel superhero genre is extremely hot right now.

After the disappointment that was Ep I, Ep II wasn't really very tough competition. About the only way to rescue it would have been to feature the slow painful death of Jar-Jar.

There's a good chance the big loser will be Matrix, with 2 movies coming out a couple months apart, and no small amount of "matrix-cam" in the offerings this year (Daredevil, X-Men and Charlie's Angels 2 I know for sure). Of course I'm biased, once I found out what the actual plot of Matrix was I lost all temporary suspension of disbelief trying to figure out why someone would want to "break" the Matrix and force everyone to live on the burnt out rock that was reality; as such I have zero interest in either sequel and am actually hoping they bomb miserably.

I knew Spiderman wouldn't face much competition from EpII, since everybody knows that Lucas is a horrible director and fussy about what theaters his movies show in there were serious limitations on EpII from the start. The success of X-Men told us there were plenty of comicbook geeks out there, and Spiderman is generally more popular than X-Men anyway. Hulk is pretty low profile though, and it'll be the third comicbook movie this year, could be market saturation. We'll see, I'd like it to be successful Hulk is one of my favorite comics.
